Job Description

Sandwell Children's Safeguarding Partnership (SCSP) is seeking an exceptional individual to serve as Independent Scrutineer, providing objective oversight and critical challenge to our safeguarding arrangements in line with Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023. We are looking for an Individual with considerable knowledge and experience of safeguarding children, who combines operational and strategic understanding with the ability to influence and drive improvement. This role requires someone passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people, able to engage, support, and offer reflective challenge to partnership members while remaining independent.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide independent scrutiny of SCSP's multi-agency safeguarding arrangements.
  • Act as a critical friend, offering constructive challenge and assurance to safeguarding partners.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory duties outlined in Working Together 2023.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of safeguarding practice and identify areas for improvement.
  • Champion the voice of children and families in safeguarding processes.
  • Produce reports and recommendations for the Executive Forum to support continuous improvement.

Person Specification

  • Proven expertise in safeguarding children and multi-agency working.
  • Strong analytical and evaluation skills.
  • Ability to provide independent, objective challenge.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills.
  • Understanding of statutory guidance, including Working Together 2023.
  • Commitment to improving outcomes for children and young people.

Terms
The Independent Scrutineer will work flexibly, attending partnership meetings and providing reports as required. This role is for a term of 24 months with a view to extending it for a further 12 months.

Renumeration - £500.00 per day
Time commitment - Up to 20 days per year
