Interim Disrepair Manager
Location: South West England
Duration: Initial 6-month contract
Rate: Circa 500 per day
Our client, a Local Authority in the South West, is seeking an experienced and highly capable Interim Disrepair Manager to lead their Responsive Repairs team within Housing and Landlord Services.
About the Role
As Disrepair Manager, you will manage a team of surveyors and support staff responsible for responding to and resolving legal disrepair cases. Acting as the council's lead on housing condition litigation, you will oversee performance management, legal case handling, and continuous service improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and lead a team of surveyors and support staff delivering responsive disrepair services
- Act as the council's lead on all legal housing condition claims, advising internal legal teams and supporting case preparation
- Oversee performance management, ensuring timely, high-quality responses to disrepair cases and legal proceedings
- Develop service improvement plans based on lessons learned from complaints and legal outcomes
- Monitor and manage large revenue and capital budgets, ensuring value for money
- Represent the service in court and high-level legal discussions as required
Essential Experience & Qualifications
- Educated to degree level in building surveying, environmental health, or related discipline
- Extensive experience in a senior housing role, preferably within social housing
- Proven management experience including professional staff, contractors, and budgets
- Expert knowledge of housing disrepair legislation and legal protocols
- Demonstrated experience of managing disrepair performance, legal costs, and case outcomes
- Membership or working toward membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., RICS, CIEH, CIOB, CIH) - Desirable
