Senior Nuclear Materials Engineer - Submarines

A vacancy has arisen for a Senior Nuclear Materials Engineer to join the team based at Raynesway, Derby.
The core materials team are part of the Core Structural Integrity Department. The department is responsible for owning and continuously developing our materials knowledge and capability, through testing, research and development. We are also responsible for using this data to generate analysis models and methods, which we then use to assess the structural integrity of our components. We support the design, manufacture and through-life justification for the Rolls-Royce Nuclear Steam Raising Plant Core components.

What you will be doing
The core materials engineer role includes:
Developing materials specifications for new products, materials and special processes.Acting as a consultant to the manufacturing teams on process compliance and non-conformance.Developing new materials understanding and capability through research and development programmes.

Key Skills and Experience
Degree level qualification in a materials engineering subject.Experienced in working in a safety critical engineering environment.Understanding and appreciation of nuclear materials, including nuclear fuels.Manufacturing processes and their effect on material properties.Materials selection and acquisition and understanding of Technology Readiness Levels.Defining and running materials test programmes and interpreting the results.Communication skills, including formal report writing.Ability to prioritise and take ownership of multiple work packages.Optional Additional Skills
Data manipulation, modelling and automation.Creating and validating analytical material models.Through-life degradation, such as corrosion and effects of irradiation.Ability to work with agility and deal with emergent work packages.Appreciation for product safety and experience in safety substantiation.

To work for the Rolls-Royce Submarines business an individual has to hold a Security Check clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you do not currently already have this in place. Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets we can only progress applications from individuals who are a UK national or, in MoD approved cases, a dual national.
