Section Engineer

Job Title: Section Engineer - Major Highway Project
Location: Gloucester, UK
Rate: 440 - 460 per day (Inside IR35)
Duration: 9-12 Months
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Freelance (via umbrella)

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Section Engineer to join a major highways infrastructure scheme based in Gloucester. This is a large-scale project with a strong focus on earthworks and drainage, offering long-term freelance engagement and career-defining experience on a nationally significant build.

• 
  Manage and lead a defined section of the works, primarily focused on earthworks and drainage packages
• 
  Supervise and support Site Engineers and subcontractors to ensure technical compliance and programme delivery
• 
  Review and implement design drawings and specifications
• 
  Carry out quality inspections and ensure work is delivered in line with project quality standards
• 
  Prepare method statements, risk assessments, and work package plans
• 
  Maintain and track daily site records, progress, and cost reporting
• 
  Ensure works are completed in accordance with Health, Safety, and Environmental standards
• 
  Liaise with clients, designers, and project management to resolve technical queries

• 
  Demonstrable experience as a Section Engineer on major highways or infrastructure projects (e.g. Smart Motorways, HS2, major roadworks)
• 
  Strong technical knowledge of earthworks and drainage
• 
  HNC/Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
• 
  Valid CSCS card (essential)
• 
  Additional certifications such as SMSTS, First Aid, and CAT & Genny (advantageous)
• 
  Confident with AutoCAD and modern setting out tools
• 
  Excellent leadership, planning, and coordination skills
• 
  Available immediately

  Long-term freelance position with stable workload and potential for extended phases
