The Role:
We are assisting our client to recruit a Technical Food Manager who will play a key leadership role in championing technical excellence across the organisation. Responsibilities of the Technical Food Manager:
- Lead the technical function, providing strategic direction on food safety, quality systems, regulatory compliance, and industry best practices.
- Manage and develop the technical team, fostering capability, engagement, and a culture of continuous improvement.
- Drive alignment between technical operations and business objectives, ensuring all systems and processes support legal, customer, and certification standards (e.g. BRCGS, HACCP, Organic).
- Strengthen partnerships with suppliers and manufacturing sites, promoting shared accountability for quality, sustainability, and compliance.
- Oversee the Quality Management System (QMS), supplier assurance, traceability, complaints, and technical investigations, ensuring readiness for all audits and external assessments.
- Lead sustainability initiatives in collaboration with senior leadership, embedding responsible sourcing and environmental performance into the supply chain.
- Maintain the technical risk register, advise on emerging risks and regulations, and support data-led reporting for improved decision-making.
- Act as technical lead during customer and third-party audits, ensuring transparent communication and follow-up actions.
- Support product development by ensuring technical feasibility and compliance from concept to launch.
- Represent the business in industry forums, enhancing influence and credibility across the supply chain.
- Continuously improve technical processes using digital tools and analytics to streamline operations and enhance outcomes.
Requirements of the Technical Food Manager:
- In-depth knowledge of food safety standards (e.g., BRCGS, HACCP, VACCP, TACCP, RSPO, Organic)
- Proven line management experience (developing and supporting teams).
- The ability to form strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders externally and internally.
- Experience in continuous improvement.
- Level 3 or 4 in Food Safety, HACCP, Internal Auditing, and Risk Assessment.
- Additional certifications in TACCP/VACCP, Allergen Management, Sustainability, would be useful.
- Proficiency with QMS software and audit/tracking tools
