Job Description

About Us
Greener Ealing Ltd (GEL) is a dynamic and growing environmental services company, wholly owned by the London Borough of Ealing. Formed to deliver high-quality, responsive and value-for-money services, GEL has quickly established a reputation for operational excellence, innovation and an engaged workforce.

With over 420 employees, a strong performance record and customer satisfaction levels among the highest in the capital, GEL plays a central role in delivering waste and recycling, street cleansing, grounds maintenance and parking enforcement services across the borough. As the face of the local authority, GEL is proud to support a cleaner, greener and more sustainable Ealing.

About the Role
We are now looking for a new Managing Director to lead the company through its next phase. This is a rare opportunity to take on a high-profile leadership role with a well-performing and ambitious organisation.

You will be responsible for providing strategic leadership, operational direction and commercial oversight across all areas of the business. Working closely with the Board, the Chair and senior figures in the Council, you will ensure that GEL continues to deliver excellent services while identifying and developing new income streams and opportunities for growth.

You will be expected to lead from the front by building strong relationships internally and externally, acting as a visible and inspiring leader to the entire workforce and driving a culture of continuous improvement and innovation. Day-to-day, you will oversee financial performance, service delivery, workforce development and stakeholder engagement, ensuring that GEL remains a trusted and value-adding partner to Ealing Council.

A key part of your role will be to maintain and enhance our strong track record of customer satisfaction, lead the senior management team and work closely with our Compliance and HSEQ teams to embed a strong health and safety culture.

About You
We are looking for an experienced, commercially minded leader with a strong track record in environmental services. You will bring a blend of strategic vision, operational expertise and a collaborative mindset. You will understand the political and public sector context in which GEL operates and will be comfortable navigating the complexity that comes with delivering high-profile services in a unionised environment.

You should be equally confident engaging with councillors and senior stakeholders as you are spending time with frontline teams, listening to concerns, recognising achievements and helping to shape a positive culture. This is very much a people-centred role and you will need the credibility and authenticity to connect with a wide range of audiences.

Your background might be in waste, recycling, street services or another relevant operational discipline, but what matters most is your ability to lead a complex organisation, inspire teams and deliver results.

You will also have experience of managing large teams and significant budgets, a strong understanding of front-line service delivery and commercial development, experience of driving organisational change and performance improvement, excellent communication, influencing and partnership-building skills, and a commitment to GEL's Vision and Values.
