Job Description / Job Scope:
RACE develops advanced robotics and remote handling technologies for use in nuclear and hazardous environments. Working with partners from academia and industry, RACE aims to make nuclear power safer, more efficient, and more affordable, supporting the UK's transition to a low-carbon economy. RACE's mission is to tackle the most pressing challenges facing the nuclear industry and other fields, advancing nuclear fusion as a safe, clean, and sustainable energy source.
Support RACE projects with UI/UX design expertise with a focus on working independently with robotics operators and developers to:
Determine requirements
Produce innovative designs that meet them
Conduct adjustments based on user feedback
Qualifications Required:
Bachelor's degree in a design discipline (UX/UI, Human Computer Interaction, Interaction, Product or Industrial design)
Experience Required
3+ years' experience in a creative design discipline (UX/UI, Interaction design) with a strong portfolio showcasing end-to-end product design
Proficiency with UI design and prototyping tools (Figma, Protopie)
Created or maintained design systems outlining rules and guidelines for development
Strong understanding of user-centred design methodologies and usability principles
Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a small, cross-functional team
Adaptable with a pragmatic approach
Desired Experience:
Designed for products combining physical and digital experiences
Experience designing for 3D environments (Unreal Engine or similar)
Experience working in robotics or designing for industrial operational interfaces
Experience with the Agile development process
Experience developing HMIs for robotic systems
General interest in mobile robotics and engineering
