Secondary SEMH Teaching Assistant - Bury We are delighted to be recruiting for a Secondary SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a dedicated Alternative Education Provision in Bury. If you are naturally engaging, passionate about supporting young people, and motivated by making a meaningful difference, this could be the ideal role for you. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity starting asap, with strong potential to become a permanent position for the right candidate. Role Overview Position: SEMH Teaching Assistant Setting: Secondary Alternative Education Provision, Bury Start Date: ASAP Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm Contract: Long-term, with the possibility of permanent employment Pay: £95-£110 per day (DOE) for the first 12 weeks; equal pay to permanent staff from week 13 Payroll: Paid via PAYE through Now Education (no umbrella companies) Key Responsibilities Provide in-class support to students with SEMH needs, Autism, and challenging behaviours Build positive, trusting relationships through patience, empathy, and consistency Identify behavioural triggers and apply proactive and de-escalation strategies Break down instructions and learning tasks to make content accessible Offer targeted support to individual pupils or small groups as needed Encourage resilience, engagement, and independence Collaborate effectively with teachers, support staff, parents, and external professionals Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment Working Environment A rewarding opportunity to support young people educated outside mainstream settings A hands-on role within a flexible and creative provision delivering personalised support A values-led team who prioritise empathy, relationships, and wellbeing A supportive leadership team committed to professional development A positive workplace culture rooted in collaboration and inclusion Convenient location with strong community connections What You'll Gain Strong likelihood of a permanent contract after 12 weeks Competitive pay and fair working conditions Ongoing support from a dedicated consultant with extensive local experience Access to professional development and skill-building opportunities A stable, inclusive, and enjoyable working environment The chance to make a tangible difference to pupils who benefit greatly from consistent support Requirements A CV covering at least 10 years of work and education history Right to Work in the UK and proof of address Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply) References covering the last two years Overseas Police Check (if applicable) Experience supporting young people with challenging behaviour or SEMH needs If you're ready to make a meaningful impact in a role that offers both purpose and professional growth, we encourage you to apply today .
