About the role, Your Impact Baxter & Woodman's Spatial Technology Group has a rewarding opportunity for a GIS Solutions Specialist. Successful candidates will blend technical GIS expertise with a strong client-service mindset, helping municipalities and public agencies maximize the value of their GIS investments. This position is ideal for someone who thrives on building client relationships, understanding needs, and delivering practical and innovative GIS solutions. Most of the role will focus on supporting and maintaining GIS for municipal clients, with an added focus on developing innovative applications and advancing GIS capabilities. What your day-to-day will look like Serve as the primary GIS resource for municipal clients, ensuring their GIS systems are reliable, accurate, and aligned with operational needs. Provide ongoing GIS support, training, and troubleshooting to help clients effectively use their GIS platforms. Assist in the design and implementation of client-focused GIS strategic plans that support long-term community goals. Collaborate directly with client staff to identify needs, translate them into GIS solutions, and ensure client satisfaction. Deliver onsite services to municipal clients, acting as their trusted GIS advisor. Develop and maintain custom maps, dashboards, and web/mobile applications to support public works, utilities, and community services. Support proposal preparation, client presentations and training, and demonstrations of GIS capabilities. Contribute to the development and implementation of innovative solutions involving ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, and custom applications (AppStudio, Python, Arcade, etc.). Education/Certification Requirements Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, or related field. Must-haves, what you will bring Minimum 5 years of professional GIS experience with client-facing responsibilities. Ability to clearly explain technical information to non-technical audiences and adapt communication to different groups and skill levels. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple client projects. Proven ability to deliver excellent customer service and maintain positive client relationships. Strong troubleshooting and creative problem-solving skills. Solid working knowledge of ArcGIS platforms (ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online). Experience with asset management systems (Cityworks, Cartegraph, Lucity) preferred. Hands-on experience with ArcGIS Enterprise administration or implementation a plus. Experience with GIS-related scripting/coding (Python, Arcade, etc.) a plus. Knowledge of municipal operations, public works, or utility services preferred. Understand industry-standard Esri data schema design and architecture for municipal infrastructure and utility implementations. Valid Driver's License and ability to travel throughout the Chicagoland area. Compensation: The hourly rate for this position is $70,000-$85,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, and certifications. You matter!
