You will play a key role in providing prisoners with structure and routine, making sure they get to work in the morning within the Prison, are actively engaging in education or work and the prison regime and are secure in their cell in the evening. As part of your new role with us, you will undertake a Level 3 custodial management qualification. The programme runs in parallel with your ITC and you will be supported through the programme by an experienced Coach, as well as through a mentoring programme and line management support. On completion, you will obtain a recognised Custodial Qualification, which will support your role and career development. As a PCO you will work a variety of shifts, including weekends, evenings and nights. All shifts are on a rolling pattern and agreed in advance. Any change to shift patterns will be communicated clearly with a minimum of 30 days notice. Qualifications/Skills/Experience Person Specification: QCF 3 (Desirable). Completion / working towards completion of QCF level 3 within the regulatory 2 year requirement (Essential). Prior experience working with children and young people, preferably in a residential care or childcare setting. Sound understanding of child development principles, attachment theory, and trauma-informed care approaches. Ability to engage with children from diverse backgrounds, demonstrating empathy, patience, and resilience. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish positive relationships with children, colleagues, and external professionals. Flexibility and adaptability to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required in a residential care setting. Basic knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and safeguarding procedures related to residential childcare.
