BNY Mellon
EMEA Pitch Team Senior Investment Specialist
BNY Mellon
Title: EMEA Pitch Team Senior Investment Specialist Reports to: Head of EMEA New Business Pitch Team Scope: Leading on all Newton and NIMNA new business pitches Location: Part of the IM EMEA Pitch team but embedded in Newton at 160 Queen Victoria Street, London. BNY Mellon Investment Management is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer. We offer hybrid flexible working arrangement is part of our culture and therefore we would expect some office-based collaboration to help build and lead strong teams but also flexible home and virtual to ensure our people have strong overall wellbeing and good work-life balance. THE OPPORTUNITY This is an incredibly exciting time to join BNY Mellon Investment Management. Having completed a global brand strategy review in 2019 - which included the merger of business, legal entities and re-branding our retail products around the world to BNY Mellon - we are now seeking to hire the best talent to deliver on our brand promise through the experience that our clients and our employees have with us every day. As part of this, the new Head of New Business Pitches has led an engagement program with key stakeholders to fully understand their needs and wants. A review of our RFPs, current and previous suggested that we have not invested enough in our people to support them in using knowledge and learning of our strategies that we write about. We try and do too much, the focus has been on quantity rather than quality. When engaging with our clients, they were blunt! Our RFPs are too generic - clients told us that unless we put Newton somewhere near the front of the document, they wouldn't be able to tell which house the document came from - they all look the same! Asked who did the best RFPs and they replied, "small fund managers or private asset boutiques" where the portfolio manager or a senior product specialist completes the document. So, how to bridge this gap between client demands and our desire as a business to make the process as economically efficient as possible? Firstly, we need to focus on quality - install a business acceptance process. Secondly, we should encourage the sales team to feel involved and empowered in the process so that we get to understand the client and their investment process. Plus, for large or complex cases, to attend mid stage review meetings so that they can share the client's voice. Next, we need to re-design our RFP team around our client's demands. To help them speak with the voice of the business and with ears that hear the client. Upskilling is the aim. THE ROLE Key to this role is the ability to gain the confidence of the Newton investment teams and also the IM EMEA sales teams and country heads. Deep investment knowledge to CAIA and or CFA level - Excellent written English language and grammar skills and the ability to translate complex investment theory and drive appropriate messaging. The role holder must be able to demonstrate an immediate ability to absorb and understand Newton. A desire to WIN - this is a new business focused role - helping to drive new sales revenue. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES This role leads on all complex and SMA account new business pitches for Newton across EMEA. The Pitch Team Senior Investment Specialist will be embedded with the Newton investment teams to facilitate collaboration with these investment professionals as well as Newton's senior management. The role holder will lead on all investment specific messaging. A key part of the role is to lead on knowledge sharing for Newton strategies with the rest of the EMEA New Business Pitches team. You will be expected to mentor more junior team members and develop their skills as advocates for our business. Deputise for the Head of EMEA New Business Pitches when he is absent. BNY Mellon is an Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. Minorities/Females/Individuals With Disabilities/Protected Veterans. Our ambition is to build the best global team - one that is representative and inclusive of the diverse talent, clients and communities we work with and serve - and to empower our team to do their best work. We support wellbeing and a balanced life, and offer a range of family-friendly, inclusive employment policies and employee forums.
