RSSB are now seeking a Lead Human Factors Specialist to join the Human Factors team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Human Factors professional to take a leading role in shaping and delivering our consultancy offering to the rail industry. In this role, you will scope, manage and deliver high-impact human factors projects - including research initiatives - that support our members and help the wider industry enhance safety, performance and innovation. Our work is wide ranging and impactful: from shaping the design and rollout of new technologies, to creating cutting edge training solutions using VR and AI. Responsibilities: Develop and lead the human factors team consultancy offering to the rail industry. Lead, inspire, manage, mentor and coach members of the human factors team to ensure the quality and timely delivery of their work and on-going development of their human factor's skills and knowledge. Lead complex projects and workstreams overseen by the Head of Human Factors and Principal Human Factors specialists. Provide objective technical input, advice and quality checking as required and ensuring your work satisfies the expectations of the recipient in terms of scope, technical quality, and timely delivery. Role model good leadership and project management behaviours, and act as a sounding board for technical matters for members of the human factors team. To apply, you will be: Qualified in Occupational Psychology or Human Factors or Ergonomics to MSc level or equivalent industry experience. A registered or chartered member of the British Psychological Society or Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors or equivalent (candidates can be in the process of registration/chartership) Have significant experience leading human factors commercial consultancy projects. Have substantial experience in a human factors role in a relevant safety critical industry and evidence of expertise in one or more areas of human factors. Have experience of leading and managing a small team and areas of human factors work. Able to demonstrate a strategic and analytical thinking ability, distilling the important aspects of problems and issues. Able to apply creativity and diligence to finding solutions or resolutions to working projects and situations. Day to day, you'll be involved in: Supervising prisoners across all aspects of prison wing activity Overseeing work and education programmes and encouraging participation Managing operational duties such as headcounts, cell searching, security and administrative processes Supporting and managing prisoners who may be at risk of self-harm As a Prison Officer, you'll be at the forefront of ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of everyone in your care. It's a role where your contribution genuinely counts, as you help provide structure, encourage positive choices, and support prisoners on their journey towards rehabilitation. We operate 24/7, all year round, so you'll work a rota covering days, evenings, weekends, nights and bank holidays. We understand the importance of work-life balance and operate a rota system that provides structure and flexibility, helping you plan meaningful time off to do the things you enjoy. What's in it for you? Your starting annual salary will be £28,187 increasing to £29,271 after 12 months and increasing again to £33,337 after three years' service. We're fully committed to supporting you through a nationally-recognised qualification for Prison Custody Officers: PCO Portfolio or PCO apprenticeship. This typically takes 12-18 months and - as soon as either is successfully completed - will increase your salary to £32,288.
