Sales Estimator - Alfreton, Derbyshire - Specialist Steel Fabrication Contractor £40,000 - £50,000 per annum (DOE) Full-time - PermanentService Care Solutions are working with a well-established, family-owned steel fabrication contractor based in Alfreton, Derbyshire. With a strong reputation in the fabrication and installation of industrial chimneys, flue systems, and bespoke secondary and modular steelwork, they are now looking to recruit a proactive and detail-focused Sales Estimator to join their growing commercial team. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in pricing and securing complex and technically interesting projects across the UK and overseas. Responsibilities As Sales Estimator, you will be at the forefront of new business activity, translating technical drawings and specifications into commercially viable and accurately priced proposals. Your duties will include: Reviewing tender enquiries and detailed project specifications Taking off steelwork quantities from engineering drawings Preparing accurate and timely cost estimates and formal quotations Liaising with clients to clarify technical and commercial requirements Collaborating with production and contracts teams to confirm pricing, materials, and lead times Maintaining accurate records of submitted bids and tracking outcomes Supporting follow-up discussions to convert quotations into secured contracts You will work closely with senior leadership, operations, and clients to ensure bids are competitive, realistic, and aligned with the company's reputation for quality and reliability. Requirements We are keen to speak with candidates who have experience within structural or industrial steelwork environments, ideally with exposure to chimneys, flues, or modular steelwork. Job Title: Estimator Salary: £35k DOE Hours: Monday Friday, 37.5 hours Contract: Permanent Location: Cambridgeshire An established engineering and manufacturing business operating within the UK infrastructure sector is seeking an Estimator to join a small, experienced commercial team. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing a high volume of enquiries, producing accurate and timely estimates, and working closely with in-house design and production teams. This is an excellent opportunity for someone confident working independently, who understands engineering figures and logistics, and can add value from day one. Estimator Responsibilities Manage and price a steady flow of customer enquiries, ranging from simple estimates to more complex engineered solutions Analyse drawings, specifications and customer requirements to prepare accurate costings Produce detailed estimates covering materials, labour, fabrication times and subcontracted services Liaise closely with the in-house design team, production team and external suppliers to gather technical and commercial information Communicate with customers to clarify requirements and ensure quotations are accurate and complete Maintain accurate records, documentation and pricing data within the estimating system Estimator Experience Required Proven estimating experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment Strong numerical ability with confidence handling figures, parts lists and paperwork The ability to work autonomously within a small team and take ownership of estimates Experience working from drawings and technical information Good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple enquiries at once Clear and confident communication skills, both internally and with customers Steel or infrastructure experience is advantageous, but not essential transferable estimating skills will be considered Strong IT skills, particularly with estimating systems and Microsoft Excel Interested?
