Environmental Health Officer Temporary Contract - Belfast City Centre Main purpose of job Responsible through a Senior Environmental Health Officer (EHO) to an appropriate manager for the improvement of the health and quality of life of people in Belfast through the efficient and effective delivery of specific work activities allocated to the postholder. Make an effective contribution to the development and achievement of the Environmental Health Service objectives and unit business plans. Summary of responsibilities and personal duties Carry out specified enforcement, investigative, educational and advisory duties associated with the responsibilities of any area of work to which the postholder is assigned. Proactively liaise with other organisations (public, private, voluntary and community) to enhance the achievement of service and unit objectives. Carry out project work as directed by the Principal Environmental Health Officer / Assistant City Protection Manager or Senior EHO. Responsible for organising personal daily work demands to ensure that all relevant agreed targets are achieved to ensure that a quality, customer focused environmental health service is delivered. Provide such reports, records and statistical information as required. Keep himself or herself informed of all new developments within the area of work to which the postholder is currently assigned through a process of continuing professional development. Proactively make suggestions for the improvement of work practices and services provided. Participate as required in the training of students and other persons assigned to the unit for training purposes or work experience. Occasionally work outside normal office hours and to provide occasional cover for out of hours services such as the night-time noise service as directed by the unit manager. Motivate and manage any staff, that may be assigned to the post holder, to ensure effective service delivery and to be responsible for reviewing and implementing a proper staff training and development programme. Participate in all induction and in-service training provided by Belfast City Council and in the induction and support of all newly appointed staff and other human resource management policies and procedures, as appropriate, including, absence management, disciplinary and grievance procedure. articipate as directed in the council's recruitment and selection procedures. Act in accordance with the council and departmental policies and procedures including customer care, equal opportunities, health and safety, safeguarding and any pertinent legislation. Consultant Scientist (Food and Agriculture) Background MTD is currently recruiting for a Consultant Scientist (Food and Agriculture) to join our consultancy team in Cardiff, United Kingdom. Job Description As a Consultant Scientist within MTD's food and agriculture consultancy team, you will develop the skills required to perform forensic investigations into safety and quality disputes on a variety food and agricultural commodities. This will include extensive training in our Food Laboratory at our Head Office in Cardiff as well as attendance on site with experienced consultants to learn in the field. The disputes can arise throughout the supply chain. Such work is undertaken for clients in the marine and insurance sectors, including international insurance companies, traders, manufacturers, suppliers, ship owners, P&I Clubs, claims handlers, loss adjusters and solicitors. Our clients appoint MTD to provide clear and independent technical advice into the cause of an incident and how the problem might best be mitigated. Such investigations will typically involve attendance at the site of an incident (often at very short notice) to gather evidence (e.g. obtain documentation, oversee the proper sampling of a material in line with International Standard procedures, interview involved parties etc.) and manage what are often high-pressure, contentious situations, including carrying out joint surveys and providing real-time advice on mitigation. Attend in Central America to investigate the allegation, cause and extent in the change of colour of a consignment of maize. Investigate to determine the nature and source of a particulate contamination to a consignment of vegetable oils refined in Indonesia. Determine the cause of increased acidity of refined vegetable oil intended for use as a biofuel feedstock.
