An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to join our Student Communities Team based in Sunderland. The team supports a wide range of student leadership activity, including officer support, societies, student representation, volunteering, and campaigns. The successful candidate will be responsible for working with a wide range of student leaders to mobilise student-led change using community organising techniques, harnessing their talents and enhancing student skills development. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain a variety of skills through being involved in a varied role across different areas of student engagement at Sunderland Students' Union. A few years ago we underwent a Democracy and Governance Review to revitalise the way our students interact with their Students' Union across both the Sunderland and London campuses. The findings highlighted the need for a clear shift away from the more traditional models of SU democracy towards a community organising approach. We are in our first year of fully implementing our new approach to student-led change and democratic engagement, following on from a successful first full year of the Student Communities Team structure and paid part-time student officers in 2025/26. The post holder will need to demonstrate how they meet the essential criteria outlined in the job description and person specification within their application statement, providing clear and specific examples of relevant experience. Informal conversations about the role are encouraged with our Student Communities Manager, Kara-Jane Senior, ahead of application.

Help create a world free of MSA. The Multiple System Atrophy Trust is the UK's leading charity supporting people affected by multiple system atrophy (MSA), a rare neurological disease with no known cause or cure. At the Multiple System Atrophy Trust, our ambition is clear: a world free of MSA. Until the cause and cure are found, we are here for everyone affected by multiple system atrophy, offering expert support, trusted information and a strong, compassionate community so that no one has to face this rare neurological disease alone. Why our work matters MSA is a progressive neurological disorder that can affect movement, balance and vital autonomic functions, including bladder and blood pressure control. Support, connection and hope Across the UK and Ireland, our telephone and email support line, eight specialist MSA nurses and two social welfare specialists provide expert help when it matters most. Our regional and online support groups, introductory webinars, research updates, coffee mornings and carers' groups create connection, share knowledge and reduce isolation. At the same time, we fund research to uncover the cause of MSA and move us closer to a cure.
