We are looking for a Principal Stress Engineer to work on our Airbus Defence & Space site in Stevenage. As a Principal Stress Engineer you will be joining a department of approx. 30 and working with project teams of 5-10 people. Mainly working on Telecoms satellites. This role comes with a strong career path, progressing to Deputy Lead / Lead roles. You will be responsible for independently completing all mechanical analysis activities and test campaigns to demonstrate achievement of prescribed strength and stiffness against requirements in the allocated time. Also responsible for maintaining a high degree of technical competency in their specialized field within an engineering group. Task & accountabilities: Your main tasks and responsibilities will include: To identify all strength and stiffness requirements and ensure that they are valid. To perform all structural analysis necessary to ensure that all strength and stiffness requirements are met with a minimum mass design. To ensure that the design incorporates all features necessary to meet the strength and stiffness requirements. To provide a detailed definition of all structural testing required to verify that the strength and stiffness requirements are met. To monitor these tests and issue a test assessment report that demonstrates that requirements have been met and that the pre-test analysis was of sufficient accuracy. Write clear and concise strength summary reports demonstrating adequate strength margins for all significant possible modes of failure. Write other associated analysis documentation. Provide design support to manufacture to ensure that strength and stiffness requirements are met for all non-conformances to design with appropriate corrective action. To present strength and stiffness analyses and test requirements and assessments at formal design reviews. Required skills: To be successful for this role, you need to have the following skills and experience: Degree or equivalent in Mechanical or Aeronautical or similar related discipline. Typically 7+ years relevant experience Appreciation of the relevant design drivers and associated manufacturing issues To be conversant with and to apply as appropriate, analysis techniques and methods for light weight structures strength and stiffness prediction that are generally common to spacecraft structures analysis. These will include classical hand analysis and computer techniques including the use of the industry standard finite element program (MSC/Nastran) with pre/post processing software (Hyperworks). We are looking for a Principal Stress Engineer to work on our Airbus Defence & Space site in Stevenage. As a Principal Stress Engineer you will be joining a department of approx. 30 and working with project teams of 5-10 people. Mainly working on Telecoms satellites. This role comes with a strong career path, progressing to Deputy Lead / Lead roles. You will be responsible for independently completing all mechanical analysis activities and test campaigns to demonstrate achievement of prescribed strength and stiffness against requirements in the allocated time. Also responsible for maintaining a high degree of technical competency in their specialized field within an engineering group. Task & accountabilities: Your main tasks and responsibilities will include: To identify all strength and stiffness requirements and ensure that they are valid. To perform all structural analysis necessary to ensure that all strength and stiffness requirements are met with a minimum mass design. To ensure that the design incorporates all features necessary to meet the strength and stiffness requirements. To provide a detailed definition of all structural testing required to verify that the strength and stiffness requirements are met. To monitor these tests and issue a test assessment report that demonstrates that requirements have been met and that the pre-test analysis was of sufficient accuracy. Write clear and concise strength summary reports demonstrating adequate strength margins for all significant possible modes of failure. Write other associated analysis documentation. Provide design support to manufacture to ensure that strength and stiffness requirements are met for all non-conformances to design with appropriate corrective action. To present strength and stiffness analyses and test requirements and assessments at formal design reviews. Required skills: To be successful for this role, you need to have the following skills and experience: Degree or equivalent in Mechanical or Aeronautical or similar related discipline. Typically 7+ years relevant experience Appreciation of the relevant design drivers and associated manufacturing issues To be conversant with and to apply as appropriate, analysis techniques and methods for light weight structures strength and stiffness prediction that are generally common to spacecraft structures analysis. These will include classical hand analysis and computer techniques including the use of the industry standard finite element program (MSC/Nastran) with pre/post processing software (Hyperworks). Able to establish and execute work plan and cost estimate for projects. Able to train, advise and supervise team members in main activities. Excellent presentation and communication skills. Able to work on your own as well as with others. Eligibility to handle ITAR data and equipment Although we are using FEMAP, we will be progressing to HyperWorks so any experience in this would be useful. Training is provided.
