Citibank (Switzerland) AG
Head of AI Solutions, COO Technology - MD (C16) page is loaded Head of AI Solutions, COO Technology - MD (C16)Applylocations: London United Kingdomposted on: Posted Todayjob requisition id: Citi's COO Technology organization is building one of the most consequential AI platforms in global financial services - and this is the role that leads it.The Head of AI Solutions is a newly created, executive-level position with a clear mandate: architect a unified AI strategy, build a world-class engineering team, and deliver production-grade AI at scale across the operational nerve center of a global bank. This is not a coordination or advisory role. It is a builder's role - one with the budget, the mandate, and the organizational reach to make it real. You will own the AI strategy and delivery capability across a $200M+ technology portfolio spanning some of the most operationally complex domains in banking: KYC, fraud detection, wholesale lending operations, global reconciliations, cash management, payments control, non-financial regulatory reporting, payroll, and international operations . The scale is significant, the problems are highly complex at this stage, and the impact is direct - the solutions you build will influence how trillions of dollars in transactions flow daily, how regulatory risk is managed, and how Citi's operational infrastructure evolves over the next decade.Unlike a role at a pure-play technology company, you will be solving AI challenges where failure has regulatory and systemic consequence - and where success reshapes the economics and resilience of critical global operations. The ambiguity is real, the stakes are high, and the opportunity for lasting impact is unmatched. This role reports directly to the Head of COO Technology. Responsibilities: AI Strategy & Platform Architecture: Define and own the multi-year AI strategy for the COO Technology portfolio; translate business intent into a concrete, milestone-driven execution roadmap with measurable outcomes Develop architecture blueprints and end-to-end systems design for Generative AI and agentic workflows across diverse operational domains Build the shared AI platform - reusable models, tooling, guardrails, evaluation frameworks, and accelerators - that reduces duplication, lowers cost, and enables faster adoption across COO Establish and enforce engineering standards, architectural guardrails, and development patterns across all AI initiatives Define a rigorous total cost of ownership model for developing, deploying, and sustaining AI in production Identify and evaluate emerging GenAI technologies, foundation models, and agent frameworks - and make deliberate, defensible decisions on where to build, buy, or partner Production AI Delivery at Enterprise Scale Lead end-to-end delivery of AI solutions across high-complexity, regulated operational environments - from architecture through production deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement Drive the agentic product development lifecycle: runtime harness design, evaluation frameworks, human-in-the-loop workflows, feedback loops, and production readiness criteria Manage cross-functional delivery spanning engineering, product, data, architecture, cyber, risk & compliance, and operations Proactively identify and resolve dependencies, critical path risks, and systemic delivery blockers; ensure on-time, on-budget execution Ensure all AI solutions meet production-grade standards: stability, scalability, auditability, explainability, and regulatory compliance Executive Partnership & AI Governance Serve as the senior AI executive point of contact for COO function leads - partnering directly with the Heads of Core Operations Technology, Shared Services Technology, and Controls Technology Lead AI governance forums and Architecture Review Boards; establish clear decision rights and review cadences across the portfolio Translate complex technical realities into clear, compelling narratives for senior non-technical audiences - including COO, CIO, and regulatory stakeholders Develop executive-level communications - steering committee materials, portfolio dashboards, and milestone tracking - that improve decision velocity and reduce execution risk Ensure full adherence to Citi's internal policies, risk and control frameworks, model risk management (MRM) standards, and applicable regulatory requirements Building the AI Engineering Organization Build, structure, and lead a high-performing AI engineering function aligned to COO's operational priorities - including team topology, operating model, and career pathways Foster a culture of technical excellence, intellectual curiosity, and pragmatic innovation: engineers who ship production solutions, not prototypes Own and manage the AI technology portfolio budget ( $200M), driving disciplined funding allocation, financial transparency, and cost-to-serve accountability Lead productivity and efficiency programs with measurable targets across cycle time, quality, throughput, and engineering leverage Define and optimize vendor and partner strategy, including strategic AI platform partnerships (e.g., Google, Anthropic), third-party tooling, and outsourced delivery models Qualifications: 15+ years of experience in Technology - Required: Generative AI & LLM Engineering: Deep, hands-on expertise in large language models including model selection, fine-tuning, prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), vector database design, and evaluation methodologies. Account takeover, credential stuffing, phishing-driven session theft, leaked API keys, and resold access all cause real harm - to the customers whose accounts are hijacked, and to the wider ecosystem when stolen access is used to route abusive traffic through legitimate accounts. We are looking for a staff+ engineer to set the technical direction for this work. You will own the architecture of how we detect, contain, and remediate account compromise across Claude and the Claude Developer Platform, making the design decisions that other engineers and teams build on top of. You will move between deep technical work and adversarial problem-solving: threat modelling how attackers will adapt, scoping multi-month projects from ambiguous starting points, and leading complex live investigations when they escalate. This is a hard problem space. Attackers iterate quickly, the signals separating a compromised account from an unusual but legitimate one are subtle, and every defence carries a cost to real users if it fires incorrectly. You will be building the playbook, and the judgement calls about where to draw those lines will largely be yours to make and defend. You will operate with high autonomy - owning detection coverage and incident leadership, driving alignment with Security, Product, and Policy teams, and shaping how the company approaches this problem globally rather than executing against someone else's roadmap. Key responsibilities Set the technical direction and own the architecture for account compromise detection, response, and remediation across Claude and the Claude Developer Platform Independently scope and lead complex, multi-month engineering projects from an ambiguous starting point through to production systems that operate reliably under adversarial pressure Build and evolve detection systems that identify account takeover, credential abuse, and compromised API keys in near real time Design automated response flows that cut off attacker access while minimising disruption to legitimate users Lead investigations into significant compromise incidents end to end, then convert what you learn into durable, automated defences Threat model how attackers are likely to adapt, and prioritise the team's work against that view rather than only against incidents already observed Drive cross-organisational alignment on account security direction with Security, Product, Support, Policy and other partners. Define how the team measures success and hold the work to those measures Set technical standards for the domain and raise the bar for other engineers through code review, design review, and mentorship Surface patterns from compromise cases to research and product teams so that protections improve upstream Minimum qualifications 10 + years experience designing, building, and operating detection, anti-fraud, anti-abuse, or security systems in production A track record of independently scoping and delivering complex, ambiguous, multi-month technical projects Experience making architectural decisions in an adversarial domain that other engineers and teams then build on Proficiency in Python and SQL, with strong software engineering fundamentals and hands-on coding ability Experience leading investigations into account-based abuse or security incidents, and translating findings into automated detection Ability to reason rigorously about large behavioural or telemetry datasets, and to distinguish attacker behaviour from unusual but legitimate use Strong written communication and a track record of driving alignment across multiple teams and stakeholders Sound judgement about the tradeoff between stopping bad actors and disrupting legitimate users, and the ability to explain and defend where you have drawn that line Preferred qualifications Significant engineering experience in trust and safety, platform integrity, fraud, or detection and response, including time as a technical lead or mentor Deep familiarity with account attack techniques Experience with authentication and identity systems, including OAuth, single sign-on, multi-factor authentication, device binding, and risk-based authentication Experience applying machine learning to fraud or abuse detection, alongside a clear sense of when simpler rules-based approaches are the better choice Experience with cloud data tooling such as BigQuery, Spark, dbt, Airflow or similar Experience building tooling for operational or investigative teams, and partnering closely with the people who use it Interest in AI safety, and in the specific ways account compromise intersects with model misuse Representative projects - Design the architecture for real-time login risk scoring, and get agreement across Security, Product, and Safeguards on where step-up authentication should and should not fire Design detection for compromised API keys, together with security controls to limit exposure Rebuild product features to regain access quickly when customers get compromised Write the threat model that sets the team's roadmap for the next year, and bring the rest of the organisation along with it Instrument a false positive review loop that measures how often the team's defences affect legitimate users, and drive that number down The annual compensation range for this role is listed below. For sales roles, the range provided is the role's On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. Annual Salary: £325,000 - £390,000 GBP Logistics Minimum education: Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience Required field of study: A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience Minimum years of experience: Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices. Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this. We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed. Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team. Your safety matters to us. Mission 44
Trustee Board Members
Mission 44
Mission 44 is a charitable foundation launched by Sir Lewis Hamilton in 2021 to create a fairer, more inclusive future for young people. We work to ensure every young person can thrive in school and access great careers, particularly in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths). Lewis' own journey to Formula 1 required him to overcome barriers linked to race, class and opportunity. In 2020, he established the Hamilton Commission to understand why motorsport was not representative of wider society. Mission 44 builds on the evidence and recommendations of the Hamilton Commission. While informed by the Commission, its remit extends beyond motorsport, focusing on wider education and employment systems to expand opportunity at scale. Working across the UK, the US and Brazil, we invest in the organisations closest to young people from underserved communities, and we use our platform to influence the systems that hold too many young people back. Diversity is at the heart of Mission 44. It is fundamental to how we create change. We therefore see it as essential to bring different ways of thinking to our Board of Trustees, and are now seeking 3-4 new Trustees to join our Board and be part of realising our ambitions to scale opportunities for young people. One of these will be a Young Trustee, aged 18 - 30, and we are open to backgrounds. We will provide you with additional guidance to help you navigate board responsibilities, contribute fully to discussions and develop your governance and leadership skills. For wider Trustee roles, backgrounds will ideally include one of the following areas: The education or youth sectors Communications and influencing Safeguarding experience Operational leadership experience (e.g. HR, IT, data management) Organisational growth/ international expansion Fundraising AI Creative industries Humanitarian sector Experience in intergenerational philanthropy Interested candidates must have the time available to commit to supporting Mission 44 as we enter our next phase of growth, making a thorough personal contribution and being willing to share your insights. Above all, you must be committed to our mission that every young person can thrive in school and access great careers. To learn more and apply, please download the appointment brief below or via the People Beyond Profit website. Closing date: 13 September 2026 PBP interviews: 17 - 24 September 2026 Mission 44 interviews: 6 October and w/c19 October 2026 First Board meeting: 8 December 2026 We know that when people from different backgrounds work together, it generates more diversity of thought and better ideas. We want to attract the broadest range of talented people onto our Board of Trustees so that it comprises a rich mix of personal as well as professional perspectives, positions and experiences to enable us to grow and learn better together. We are therefore particularly interested in candidates from underrepresented groups, including people of colour, people with disabilities or candidates from the LGBTQ+ community.
