Lead Azure Databricks Platform Engineer / Architect Hands-on Platform Engineering Serverless FinOps POSIT/RStudio Migration 6 Month contract Inside IR35 - 500 a day London/Hybrid Role Purpose We are seeking a highly experienced, hands-on Azure Databricks Platform Engineer / Architect to enhance and optimise an enterprise Data Platform. The role combines architecture with direct implementation: the successful candidate must be able to configure, develop, troubleshoot and optimise Azure Databricks rather than operate only at design or governance level. The role is centred on three outcomes: enabling and optimising Databricks Serverless, strengthening FinOps and platform controls, and enhancing the Databricks Discovery Zone to support workloads currently delivered through POSIT/RStudio. Key Responsibilities 1. Databricks Serverless Enablement and Optimisation Assess existing workloads and determine suitability for Serverless, classic, job or interactive compute based on duration, utilisation, SLA, concurrency, performance and cost. Enable and configure Serverless for appropriate jobs, SQL workloads, notebooks, analytical processing and data pipelines. Establish workload-placement guidance, including when Serverless is not economical for predictable, heavy or continuously running workloads. Implement compute policies, autoscaling, quotas, budget controls and operational guardrails. Measure cost and performance outcomes, identify idle or oversized compute, and recommend optimisation actions. 2. FinOps and Enterprise Platform Controls Define and embed a practical FinOps operating model covering ownership, accountability, projects, environments, teams, applications and cost centres. Implement mandatory tagging and integrate validation into CI/CD so non-compliant resources are prevented from being provisioned. Provide granular cost attribution by workspace, project, application, workload, job and team/user where technically appropriate. Implement budget policies, thresholds, proactive alerts and usage reporting to prevent uncontrolled spend. Use platform usage and billing data to identify idle compute, inefficient workloads, unnecessary storage/data movement and cost anomalies. 3. Databricks Discovery Zone and POSIT/RStudio Migration Enhance the Databricks Discovery Zone to support migration from POSIT/RStudio Enable application deployment, secure API integrations, external data ingestion, LLM integration, scheduling, BI connectivity, local IDE-based development and operational reporting. Define reusable onboarding and migration patterns that reduce technology sprawl while improving security, supportability and delivery speed. 4. Data Engineering and Integration Design and build reliable ingestion and transformation pipelines using Python, PySpark, SQL and Delta Lake. Implement full and incremental ingestion, CDC where appropriate, schema evolution, reconciliation, error handling and data quality controls. Design reusable integration patterns for REST APIs, SaaS platforms, databases, files, object storage, document repositories, enterprise applications and public/external data providers. Implement secure authentication and credential handling for external and internal integrations. Build end-to-end data flows from source through governed ingestion and curated layers to BI, ML or application consumption. Required Hands-on Technical Skills Deep hands-on Azure Databricks implementation and troubleshooting Databricks Serverless and compute/workload optimisation Azure identity, networking, security, secrets, monitoring and private connectivity Databricks SQL, Delta Lake and performance optimisation Python, PySpark and SQL Jobs/workflows, incremental processing, CDC and data quality REST/API and external data integration patterns FinOps, cost attribution, tagging, budgets, monitoring and operational support Experience and Candidate Profile Significant experience delivering enterprise Azure Databricks platforms in production environments. Demonstrable ability to move between architecture, implementation, debugging and optimisation without depending entirely on specialist engineering teams. Strong understanding of platform security, data governance, operational support and controlled delivery in regulated or complex enterprises. Experience working collaboratively with data engineers, data scientists, architects, security teams, platform teams and business stakeholders. Clear communication skills and the ability to document standards, patterns, decisions and operational guidance. Highly Desirable but not Mandatory POSIT/RStudio migration or consolidation experience. Migration of analytical/data science workloads (convert and migrate R development/Libraries to Databricks). AI/ML, LLM integration, model lifecycle, RAG/vector retrieval or model-serving experience. Large-scale enterprise platform transformation and regulated-industry experience. Strong cost optimisation and FinOps delivery experience across Azure and Databricks.

Senior Full Stack Payments Product Engineer
Tickettailor
About Us Ticket Tailor is committed to empowering a diverse range of event creators through simple and affordable ticketing. But that's not all, we're also on a mission to make sure that every single ticket sold has a positive impact on all stakeholders, our team, our planet and the communities we operate in. We call this "Growth on Purpose" and are proud to be a certified B Corp, officially putting business for good at the centre of everything we do. Last year, over 10 million orders were placed through the Ticket Tailor platform, for all types of events from art installations to water parks. We have a world-class NPS score, and pride ourselves in building a simple platform built with a customer-first mindset. We're a fully independent, profitable, and bootstrapped company meaning we don't have to answer to anyone except ourselves and our customers, allowing us to scale the company sustainably and with soul. We work hybrid-remote and do two days per week in office, in our lovely space in Hackney. About The Role We're launching a brand-new team to build a new payments product, and we're hiring two Payment Product Engineers to form the engineering heart of it. It's a real mix of work: a greenfield opportunity in the new payments product, alongside maintaining and extending the payment integrations we already run. You'll help evolve and ship the system that lets event organisers get paid through Ticket Tailor, taking real ownership of how it comes together. You'll be motivated by the impact you deliver to customers; product-minded, curious, and a strong problem solver. You'll care as much about why a feature matters to an event organiser as how it's built. You'll work in a small team with two engineers alongside a Product Manager, with support from our Architects and our Head of Product Design, pairing, reviewing, unblocking, and shaping the product together. You'll own the work you deliver, from understanding the problem, to designing small blocks of long-term value, to the quality of what ships. As part of a small team you'll have a real say in the technology decisions and share in the successes with the whole company. What you'll do Build our new payments product whilst extending the payment integrations we already run - secure, well-managed, high-volume work you're proud of. Lead the build, scoping against a lightweight build plan and holding the quality bar in line with the wider Ticket Tailor architecture vision and product principles. Stay driven by the impact delivered to event organisers, caring deeply about their experience and judge whether what you've built is actually working by identifying meaningful customer signals and iterating off them. Maintain a high bar for quality and make sure what you build matches our architectural vision and product principles, designing clean services with strong separation of concerns. Work closely and generously within the team: pairing, unblocking, reviewing, and giving and receiving feedback. Use AI tools creatively and fluently to amplify your impact, reaching for new tools and ways of working rather than defaulting to how things have always been done. Bring judgement on payment-system design that others can lean on. What we're looking for Essential A deep understanding of payment systems, evidenced by your work, for example building high-scale, secure payment integrations. Awareness of PCI DSS and what building to that standard demands. Experience working in a product team alongside Product Managers. A genuine drive to work in an AI-native way - you're curious and you're happy to change how you work as the tools evolve to raise the quality and pace of your work. This is core to how our team operates. Fluency amplifying your own impact through AI and agentic engineering tools, acting as a force multiplier to those around you. Experience leading or mentoring within a team. Desirable Experience integrating payment systems into a high-scale SaaS product with Stripe or similar third-party tools. Experience judging impact through customer feedback signals, knowing what to measure, what "working" looks like, and how to adjust. Strong system design skills - you know how to design clean, maintainable, extendable services from first principles. We're open on language. PHP experience is useful (it's our primary stack), but we're happy to consider strong engineers from any modern language who are ready to pick it up. How you work Keep it simple. You don't overcomplicate, you reason from first principles, and you know when to be pragmatic and when to polish. You're ambitious to take long-term ownership of the payments product, building a sustainable, extendable, maintainable codebase. Focused on impact. You have a deep care and empty for event organisers and you're excited to watch adoption and revenue grow, using signals to iterate and improve. You're security minded and you build with care and awareness so things can't be exploited. Driven by feedback. You have a growth mindset and see feedback as a tool for getting better. Human after all. You're happiest when working as part of a team. You thrive in working in kind, collaborative spaces where you can be vulnerable and transparent. At Ticket Tailor, we're passionate about creating a diverse and inclusive environment where people can thrive, be inspired, and feel comfortable to be themselves. As a Certified B-Corp, we lead from the front, and with purpose, to disrupt the ticketing industry while ensuring we accommodate and celebrate people of all backgrounds along the way. We believe that diverse teams enable us to have different perspectives and points of view, making us even stronger in achieving our goals. We encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply and join us on our mission. Our Tools PHP is our primary language, and we use Laminas and Mezzio frameworks AI is woven into how we work, using Claude Code and agentic development workflows Linear for project management, Notion for docs Cloudflare for CDN, queueing and workers Github and Github Actions for source control and CI Incident.io for incident management Datadog for logging, monitoring and metrics, Amplitude for adoption tracking The Process If your application is shortlisted, then you will receive detailed information about the next stages of the process. As an outline, the process will include: An initial discovery call to learn more about you, your motivation, suitability for the position and to clarify any questions you have (30 minutes) A technical test for you to complete in your own time (up to 2 hours) followed by a 30 mins review call with the Hiring Manager An on-site interview with wider team members focused on system design, product thinking and ways of working Timelines We'll review applications as they're received and invite suitable candidates to an initial conversation on a rolling basis. The role will be advertised until 30th August. We encourage you to submit your application as early as possible, although we reserve the right to extend the advertising period if required. A note on using AI in your application You're welcome to use AI to help structure, refine or proofread your answers. However, your responses should accurately reflect your own skills, experience and achievements. If you're shortlisted, you should be prepared to discuss and expand on your responses during the interview. Bear in mind that hiring teams read a large number of applications. Responses that rely heavily on AI can sometimes feel generic, so taking the time to make your application personal and specific will help it stand out.
