Office Manager
Landon Harmondsworth School Harmondsworth, Middlesex
Office Manager Landon School, Harmondsworth, West London Be part of something exceptional from the very beginning Most office manager roles are about maintaining the status quo. This one isn't. Landon School achieved Outstanding from Ofsted within our first year of operation, and we're now expanding rapidly. We need an Office Manager who wants to build systems, not just operate them someone who'll grow with us as we scale from one school to five over the next 5-10 years, serving over 1,000 learners. About Landon School We're an independent special day school for children aged 5-18 with autism and severe learning difficulties, operating under our "Safe, Happy, Learning" ethos with exceptional 1:2 staff ratios. Following our Outstanding Ofsted rating in July 2025, we're opening secondary provision in January 2026 and expanding to 152 pupils by September 2026. This is just the beginning of our growth story. What makes this role different You'll be working directly with the Headteacher in a small, ambitious team where your contribution genuinely matters. We're not asking you to slot into established systems we're asking you to help create them. Get this right now, and you'll be instrumental in shaping how we operate across multiple sites as we expand. This is genuine career progression, not a promise. Early team members will have first access to senior administrative and operational roles as we open new schools. You'll go from managing one school office to potentially overseeing administrative systems across our entire group. The reality This is a proper school office manager role reception, finances, pupil records, compliance, the full scope. But you'll be doing it in a specialist SEND environment where attention to detail isn't just professional pride, it's safeguarding. You'll work with vulnerable children, complex family situations, and multi-agency teams. It requires patience, discretion, and genuine care. You'll be the first point of contact for parents, visitors, and external agencies. You'll manage financial administration, maintain our Single Central Record, coordinate with local authorities on pupil placements, and ensure we remain compliant with Independent School Standards. You'll support recruitment, manage the school calendar, and keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes so our teaching staff can focus on exceptional educational provision. What you'll need Proven office management experience, exceptional organisational skills, strong IT proficiency, and meticulous attention to detail. You must handle sensitive information with discretion and communicate professionally with everyone from anxious parents to local authority commissioners. Experience in education particularly SEND is desirable but not essential if you have the right transferable skills and genuine commitment to our mission. What's in it for you Competitive salary dependent on experience. Full-time role at 37.5 hours per week, term-time plus 5 weeks. The opportunity to establish best practice from the ground up. Real career progression as we expand to multiple schools. And the satisfaction of working somewhere that genuinely invests in its people and achieves exceptional outcomes for children who need us most. Ready for the challenge? If you're organised, discreet, proactive, and want to be part of something genuinely ambitious in SEND education, we want to hear from you. This isn't just another admin job it's a founding team opportunity in an Outstanding school with serious growth plans. The question is whether you want to be part of it from the beginning or wish you had been in five years' time. Landon School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. This post requires enhanced DBS clearance and satisfactory pre-employment checks in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education.

The Booker Prizes occupy a unique position in the literary sphere, enjoying an enviable reputation as a cultural institution that is highly respected, much loved and hotly debated throughout the world. Over the past 50 years, almost 700 extraordinary books have been brought to the attention of the public, influencing reading tastes and transforming culture in Britain and beyond, along with the careers of hundreds of authors from around the globe. In adding a year-round, far-reaching digital portfolio, the Booker Prizes are now the globally recognised home of great writing. This spring, the Booker Prize Foundation is launching the Children's Booker Prize supported by AKO Foundation. It is the first prize for children's fiction and the first major new prize from the Booker Prize Foundation in two decades. The Children's Booker Prize, which will be awarded annually from 2027, will celebrate the best contemporary fiction for children aged eight to 12 years old, written in or translated into English and published in the UK and/or Ireland. The aim of the prize is to engage and grow a new generation of readers by recognising and championing the best children's fiction from writers around the world. The founding partner and principal funder of the Children's Booker Prize is AKO Foundation, a grant-giving charitable foundation focused on supporting charities that improve education and the wellbeing of young people, promote the arts, and combat the climate emergency. AKO Foundation has generously committed to supporting the prize for its first three years. The development of the prize over the last three years has been made possible with thanks to donations from a small group of philanthropic supporters. The inaugural £50,000 award for children's fiction will open for submissions in spring 2026, with the shortlist of eight books chosen by a panel of adult judges, chaired by the UK's Children's Laureate Frank Cottrell-Boyce, announced in November 2026. The winner, to be announced in February 2027, will be selected by a combined panel of judges, with three child judges joining the adults. At least 30,000 copies of the shortlisted and winning books will be gifted to ensure more children can own and read the world's best fiction. You will lead engineering teams to build and operate reliable, secure and scalable systems that support teachers at scale and enable innovation across the education sector. You'll work closely with product, design, data, teachers and content leaders to ensure our technology choices are grounded in real classroom needs, strong pedagogy and value for money, while also pushing forward what's possible with the latest approaches and tools. You'll empower teams to get solutions built and products and features shipped. We welcome applications from candidates with senior engineering leadership experience across technology, digital or public service environments, including those who have not previously worked in education. If you're excited by the challenge of building dependable systems that quietly do the heavy lifting for teachers, and shaping how safe AI is used across the sector, we'd love to hear from you. Experience of recruiting, developing and managing a high-performing department Experience of managing a 6-figure budget and ensuring value for money. Extensive experience delivering secure, scalable, high-quality digital services in production environments. Experience implementing and operating data-intensive or emerging technologies (e.g., AI/ML), ensuring safe, reliable and responsible deployment. Experience leading the evolution of engineering systems over time, including evaluating new technologies, scaling cloud-based services, and ensuring high availability, CI/CD maturity and long-term platform resilience. Experience having deployed production ready AI technology (desirable). You will be comfortable working at pace, with a range of digital systems (including proprietary ones as required) and you will continuously look at ways that the team can keep getting better. You will be excellent at working as part of a remote team, building relationships and managing your time effectively. Our Benefits: 25 days annual leave, plus one extra day for each year of service (up to 28) Additional Oak closure days over Christmas/New Year 11% employer pension contribution (with no minimum employee contribution) A 36-hour working week, with half-days on Fridays or every other Friday off Fully remote working - we'll support your home set-up and offer coworking options if preferred Twice-yearly in-person offsites to collaborate, connect, and have fun A culture that genuinely supports flexibility, autonomy, and trust Inclusion and Belonging We believe diverse teams build better products. Next Steps We aim to run a fair, inclusive process that helps people show what they can really do. Stage 1: Apply (via Applied) You'll apply through the Applied platform. Your application will be scored anonymously against the published criteria and reviewed by more than one assessor. Stage 2: Short practical exercise (video) If you progress, we'll send you a short brief and a few suggested technologies you could use. You'll then have time to go away, create a simple prototype or generate an insight in response to the brief, and record a short video walking us through what you have produced and why. For this role, we will be looking for evidence of technical judgement and engineering thinking, for example, how you approach system design, reliability, security, data or AI safety, rather than production quality or polished demos. The exercise is designed to be accessible to candidates who lead engineering teams and may not code day to day. Videos will be scored by a small group of assessors using clear criteria. Stage 3: Interview A shortlist of candidates will be invited to a competency-based interview, assessed against the criteria set out in the job description. Our Younger Years Site has generous outdoor space, including a beautiful global food garden and a woodland garden where we run Forest School in EYFS and KS1. UKS2 pupils benefit from all the resources of sharing a site with secondary: a huge MUGA, basketball courts, science labs, specialist music equipment and so on. Diversity and inclusion: We aim to build a diverse and inclusive organisation where everyone - staff and students - can do their best work and achieve their full potential. Because of this, we have a unique opportunity to have a long term and dramatic impact on our pupils' lives. This all starts in our primary school, where our pupils develop, and grow a love of learning. We have a strong track-record as a school in making a significant impact on our pupils' lives. We adopt a mastery approach in primary, meaning that our pupils have more time and explicit teaching of the skills and concepts that underpin long term success in academics, enriched by a varied and cultural capital enhancing curriculum which inspires and engages our pupils. Our specialist teaching model allows pupils to benefit from expert teaching in PE, music, art, humanities and science and means all staff have time to plan each subject properly.
