Senior Estimator - HS2 Station Build Salary: £75,000 + benefits package Location: London Region: London We are currently looking for a Senior Estimator to work for a main contractor on the newly awarded station build as part of the iconic High Speed 2. In this role you will be responsible for tendering large packages of work whilst working within a successful pre-construction team. Candidate Requirements - What are we looking for? Degree Qualified in relevant sector (Civil Engineering or Quantity Surveying) Previous experience in Estimating or Senior Estimating Role Main contracting experience within the Civil and Rail Infrastructure industries Experience of multiple estimating software such as CANDY would be advantageous Roles & Responsibilities: Working closely with a bid team and be responsible for the preparation of the analytical estimate. Preparation of preliminaries (On-cost) pricing (In conjunction with Tender Planner). Presentation of the estimate at bid team meetings and final settlement of bid. Working to strict deadlines. Experience of pricing work under various forms of contract including Traditional NEC, Target Cost, Design & Build, Specification & Drawing or ECI bids. Preparation of quantities from drawings and specifications. Prepare abstract of material and sub-contract requirements for sourcing and pricing. Technical and commercial appraisal of material and subcontractor quotations. Preparation of analytical estimates including the detailed appraisal of construction plant and temporary works. In conjunction with the bid team, participate in the generation of value-engineered solutions throughout the bid stage design process and report on the cost effects of such solutions. Contribute to the submission document preparation. Contribute to the identification of risk and pricing of risks throughout the bid Attend site visits during tender period. Use of estimating software as a basis of preparing the estimate. Evaluate construction methods and formulate alternative proposals where necessary in conjunction with the bid team and tender planner. Associated forecasts of capital expenditure and income. Preparation of cash flow forecasts. Allocate and supervise work of subordinates within the Estimating Team to meet review and final submission deadlines Contribute to the submission document preparation. Contribute to the identification of risk and pricing of risks throughout the bid Attend site visits during tender period. You should be degree qualified or equivalent in a Civil Engineering or related discipline. You will have a depth of demonstrable experience working as an Estimator for a major contractor. You should be experienced in pricing medium to large value civil engineering works in the Civil and Rail sectors You will be able to demonstrate a commercial edge, win strategies and excellent hit rate. You will be commercially aware and a lateral thinker with a knowledge of various Forms of Contract. You should have a good technical understanding of Civil Engineering and the ability to promote alternative solutions. Knowledge of CCS Candy Estimating system would be an advantage albeit training will be given. A full driving licence. About the Requirements / Responsibilities: You will be critical in supporting the Preconstruction & Delivery teams in producing, overseeing and monitoring the contract and construction programmes. You will have competence in Asta Power Project (or similar planning software) and a well-developed ability to communicate technical issues clearly. You will have the ability to read, absorb and visualise information from drawings and text and convert this into a robust vision for construction. You will be a communicator who can motivate ancillary staff who produce 3D/4D models and cartoon sketches, so that our proposals are set before the client using visual aids as well as text. Constructive communication with Estimators is also important. Experience of a busy and fast moving Concrete Frame and Groundwork Specialists tendering office and the necessary ability to cope under pressure. Broad engineering knowledge knowing when something looks right. You will support the PM in briefings to proactively focus design (temporary and permanent), procurement, labour, plant and staff in order to secure programmed dates and milestones. Numerate and articulate. To fulfil this role, we would ideally hope for the candidate to have spent a proportion of his / her career on building sites as an engineer, project manager or similar, in the specialist field of reinforced concrete frame construction and groundworks, but this is not essential if strong planning experience can be shown in this field. About the Rewards / Benefits : If successful, you will receive a strong basic salary estimated at £70,000 to £90,000 per annum (based on level of experience) with a package to match.
