The Reinsurance Legal team has an exciting opportunity to join them as legal counsel. The role entails supporting the International Reinsurance team with their legal queries, assisting with the general counsel responsibilities for the European reinsurance entities and advising on an array of legal matters and projects within the reinsurance segment. In addition, the role provides legal support for the division's outwards reinsurance arrangements, including reinsurance recoveries, and intra-group matters. The role offers an excellent opportunity to work with colleagues across the AXA XL division, including within the compliance, risk, finance and tax teams, as well as the wider legal team.

What will your essential responsibilities include?
• Supporting the AXA XL Reinsurance underwriting teams outside North America and Bermuda with their general legal queries;
• Providing board support to the European legal entities within the Reinsurance segment and participating on board and management committees as required;
• Assisting the Ceded Reinsurance department with legal issues arising out of the placement of the Division's outwards reinsurance protections, both treaty and facultative;
• Advising on outwards reinsurance disputes and recoveries, and managing any resulting litigation;
• Providing legal support for AXA XL's intra-group reinsurance arrangements;
• Negotiating and drafting various (re)insurance-related agreements such as novations, collateral agreements and commutations;
• Participating in corporate projects impacting the reinsurance segment;
• Offering adhoc advice and legal support to the insurance segment where required, particularly with respect to the UK and EU-domiciled entities;
• Assisting with corporate governance matters;
• Collaboration with various departments such as Compliance, Risk, Actuarial, Finance and Tax.
You will report to Head of Legal, International Reinsurance and Ceded Re.
SHARE your talent
We're looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:
• UK qualified lawyer
• Excellent academics and high-quality private practice legal training;
• Broad knowledge of (re)insurance contract law and regulations;
• Excellent legal drafting skills;
• Work experience as a company secretary or international corporate practice preferably in the insurance industry
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially in German and in English, other languages are a plus
• High attention to detail and accuracy
• Strong time management and organizational skills
• Proven ability to work both collaboratively and independently
• Ability to work in an international, multicultural high paced environment within financial services
• Ability to prioritize conflicting needs, progress matters expeditiously and follow through on projects
