Overview / Responsibilities

Principal Piping Engineer - Process & Energy, Glasgow Based

Wood are now making preparations for upcoming scopes of work in 2023 across our Process & Energy division, to support this growth we require experienced Senior / Principal Piping Engineers to provide technical expertise whilst executing assigned scopes of work across a variety of projects.

The opportunity requires demonstrable experience and detailed knowledge of FEED, Detailed Design and EPC projects within the Onshore Oil & Gas, Energy and Petrochemical industries.

Detailed and technical knowledge of piping engineering is expected, including calculations, specifications, material and valve selection, P&ID development, and requisitioning of piping components, capable of plant layout and pipe routing of all process and utility piping in accordance with P&ID's and project standards.

The appointed may be allocated as a focal point to one significant project or a portfolio of projects at a variety of stages.

Responsibilities:
  • Act as discipline representative to the clients and projects
  • Demonstrate proven understanding of Pipe Specification and component selection
  • Maintain a strong work ethic and understand team dynamics and adjust behaviour to gain maximum advantage
  • Definition and approval of technical scopes
  • Ensure competence of deputies and provides coaching and mentoring
  • Possess management skills and the ability to deliver projects
  • Issue clear directions on targets, communicate concisely and develop the piping teams in the UK


Reporting into the Discipline Manager you will:
  • Adhere to and comply with relevant discipline specific procedures
  • Provide feedback for continuous improvement and monitor compliance with competence standards
  • Pursue continuous professional development
  • Provide discipline support to the business
  • Be technically competent in own discipline and actively maintains own competence according to standards
  • Ensure learning opportunities are captured and realised
  • Demonstrable knowledge of relevant regulatory framework and legislation
  • Support and supervise tasks delegated to direct reports / respective team
  • Interact with multi discipline Engineering teams

Expected:
  • Demonstrable experience in the Onshore Oil & Gas, Petrochemical and Energy industries
  • Degree qualified in an Engineering based subject, chartered status is preferred
  • Proven ability to engage in effective dealings with both client / owner and detail design contractors
  • Experience must include similar projects as principal or lead piping engineer
  • Thorough understanding of Equipment typically encountered in projects
  • Understand any special requirements that these may bring (Vibration / Maintenance / Piping Configuration)
  • Ability to deal with resolution of technical and contractual issues and policing of the design
  • Demonstrate relevant experience with 2D and 3D design projects
  • Experienced in carrying out site surveys safely in a live operating plant
  • Conversant with ASME B31.3 Design code requirements
