Job Description

As an Experienced Project Manager :

Your role will be to lead projects to support the Fusion Technology Business Unit. Working from our new premises near Rotherham, you will play a part in our fusion technology team, which is taking the UK's fusion expertise into the age of power plant delivery. Whilst having a presence at both Culham and Rotherham, Fusion Technology offers a suite of testing facilities and capabilities for advanced engineering and manufacturing in the UK fusion industry and beyond.

Your Responsibilities:

As the project manager you will develop detailed project plans, ensure resource availability, allocate and deliver every project on time, within budget and scope. You will be accountable to the Project Delivery Group Leader for executing projects to a high standard according to established project and technical management processes, leading to delivered solutions of engineering integrity commensurate with nuclear operations.

In addition to project management, you will require a big-picture perspective to ensure alignment with strategic business objectives and need to be business savvy with excellent verbal and written communication.

Whilst building effective and long-lasting relationships within the Fusion Technology Business Unit and across the organisation

You will:

- Maintain oversight of projects, particularly, planning, cost forecast and monitoring, overall execution strategy delivery
- Ensure effective management of project resources, through clear definition of roles and responsibilities, working methods and the sequencing of tasks
- Evaluate and present decisions that secure the benefits the project is tasked to deliver
- Resolve obstacles to strategy delivery and leading the identification and employment of creative solutions to overcoming them
- Oversee effective communication within the project and assist the sponsor through interactions with stakeholders, defining the project milestones and deliverables.
- Manage project document development for a project lifecycle in compliance with the UKAEA's Quality Assurance requirements
- Ensure all project activities are undertaken in a systematic manner with a Systems Engineering approach at the core of the technical solution to project objectives
- Report on progress against milestones, change, exceptions, budgets and other key performance indicators
- Ensure that the project Safety Health & Environment culture and working practices are in alignment with the UKAEA requirements
- Liaise with Groups and Departments to ensure effective co-ordination and collaboration across interfaces and competing demands

Qualifications

Skills and Background

Essential

- Leading and delivering complex engineering projects, developing and embedding major business improvement programmes to budget, time and cost
- Passion for ensuring good project management practices and culture
- A Pro-active approach to safety, with good appreciation of UK compliance requirements in design
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to make sound economic decisions that maximise project value
- Good background knowledge and understanding of fusion science and/ or technology and engineering
- Excellent interpersonal skills to enable effective working relationships to be developed across the whole business
- R&D projects
- Project Management qualification.

Desirable

- Collaboration with external partners
