Team Information

The Human Factors Team at Frazer-Nash is composed of a multidisciplinary team of Human Factors experts with experience across multiple domains. As a Human Factors Engineer you will have the opportunity to get involved in a number of different projects. Currently the team are working across the following projects:

  • The next generation of nuclear power generation including Small Modular Reactors
  • Defence systems including:
  • Land: bridging equipment
  • Sea: new frigate and fleet auxiliary ship design, submarine systems, dockyard design
  • Automation and Unmanned Systems
  • Operations room experiments
  • Transport safety systems

Our projects require expertise in Human Factors Integration and we will identify where your skills will best fit, and provide you with opportunities to experience interesting projects as you develop your career with us.

Across Frazer-Nash we have a variety of teams whom we work closely with on multi-disciplinary engineering teams that can offer you a range of developmental opportunities to suit the career path that you want to develop. What you'll be doing at Frazer-Nash?

Our expanding Human Factors Team works closely with our diverse range of cutting edge customers and supports different business groups within Frazer-Nash. We are seeking proactive and enthusiastic individuals to join a busy team. Our work spans across different domains and you will primarily be involved in defence and nuclear work.

We are a very supportive team and place a great deal of importance on teamwork, mentoring and support. Working within Human factors team on multidisciplinary projects your experience will develop quickly and you could soon be the HF project lead as you work alongside colleagues from across the team or from other teams such as the Behavioural Psychology Unit.

Below are just a few recent examples of projects that we have been working on, to give you a flavour of the type of work you will have the opportunity to get involved in:

  • Helping the Ministry of Defence understand how operations rooms can be configured to maximise decision making and teamwork performance;
  • Supporting engineering design and safety of new dockyard facilities:
  • Providing HF support to the development of autonomous unmanned drones;
  • Supporting the development of the UK's nuclear power generation including the design for Small Modular Reactors; and
  • Contributing to the design of the Royal navy's new frigate.

In addition to your HF skills, we will equip you with project management skills so you can manage your own projects as you progress through your career.

What you'll need?

We are looking for ambitious, intelligent and inquisitive individuals, who can solve challenging Human Factors problems. You will have a related Masters and undergraduate degree in a relevant area with a significant emphasis on Human Factors and Ergonomics or User Experience. You must be either an existing (or seeking to become a) member of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human factors or the British Psychological Society.

As this is a Graduate position experience is not essential, but you will be expected to demonstrate the importance of Human Factors and how this relates to your qualifications. Through our selection process you will be able to demonstrate capability and potential which will stand you in good stead as you embark on your career in Human Factors. This includes:

  • Human Factors Knowledge. You can demonstrate a broad understanding of the domain and are able to explore how this can be used in the work place.
  • Interpersonal skills. You engage with colleagues and clients and take an interest in ideas and perspectives of others.
  • Communication skills. You are confident when speaking and can clearly explain complex technical matters verbally and in writing.
  • Success. You strive to deliver to the best of your abilities and are open to learning and developing new skills.
