Our reward package

We're hiring for a Lead Developer to join our Solutions Delivery team. We'd love to hear from anyone wishing to work 0.6 FTE- 1.0 FTE (3 to 5 days a week).

Our Lead Developers work a hybrid pattern of homeworking and between 1 and 4 days a month in Exeter HQ.

Your total reward package is potentially worth up to £57847.00 annually, which includes basic salary, market supplement, potential corporate bonus and employer pension contributions.

As our Lead Developer (Technical), your starting salary will be £37418.00 and you will have opportunities to progress to £41159.00 over time. New joiners to the Met Office will start on the salary band minima.

In addition, you will be paid £6,000 per annum as a market supplement to reflect the demand for your skills. You will be paid this market driven allowance from April 2022 until March 2024 in your monthly pay whilst performing this role.

Essential Qualifications, Skills & Abilities

Programming and build - You can advise on the right way to apply standards and methods to ensure compliance. You can maintain technical responsibility for all the stages and iterations of a software development project. You can provide technical advice to stakeholders and set the team-based standards for programming tools and techniques. User focus - Experience communicating technical concepts, problems and solutions to architects, developers, and customer stakeholders Systems design - You can design systems characterised by medium levels of risk, impact, and business or technical complexity. You can select appropriate design standards, methods and tools, and ensure they are applied effectively. You can review the systems designs of others to ensure the selection of appropriate technology, efficient use of resources and integration of multiple systems and technology. Modern standards approach . You can demonstrate a strong understanding of the most appropriate modern standards and practices, and how they are applied. You can coach and guide others in these standards. Systems integration . You can define the integration build. You can co-ordinate build activities across systems. You can understand how to undertake and support integration testing activities.

Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Abilities

Public cloud - Experience with AWS/ Azure building services via CI/ CD. Geospatial data - Knowledge of geospatial data concepts and technologies. APIS - Experience building restful APIs to expose data.
