Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently seeking to recruit Senior Static Equipment Engineers to work in its Reading office on a range of Study, preFEED, FEED and EPC Projects dealing with Carbon Capture and Storage, Green Energy, Recycling, Minerals Processing as well as Chemicals, Petrochemical and Refining, Oil and Gas. These are permanent staff positions

The successful candidates will be required to undertake the following activities:
  • Take responsibility for the design and engineering of pressure vessels, storage tanks and heat exchangers on a project
  • Perform studies to assess feasibility and determine appropriate mechanical equipment
  • Undertake mechanical and heat transfer calculations to design pressure vessels, storage tanks and heat exchangers
  • Prepare specifications, data sheets and material requisitions describing static equipment
  • Technically evaluate vendor bids for static equipment
  • Review vendor drawings, calculations, and procedures
  • Liaise with other Wood groups (Piping, Electrical, Control and Instrumentation, Civil and Structural, Construction) to facilitate the integration of static equipment into overall plant design
  • Provide support, as required, to Procurement, Estimating, Cost and Planning Groups
  • Assist, when required, with inspection, testing, installation, and commissioning


Skills / Qualifications

  • Degree in mechanical engineering (or related discipline)
  • Possession of, working towards, C.Eng. status with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (or similar professional body)
  • Able to work independently or as part of a team
  • Able to lead a team of mechanical engineers
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Commercial awareness
  • Familiarity with static equipment (including pressure vessels, storage tanks and heat exchangers)
  • Experience in the Chemicals, Petrochemicals, Refining, Oil and Gas or related industries
