Job description
We have an interesting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join HM Coastguard (HMCG) in this unique role as the Community Safety Policy Lead.
As part of the Policy, Standards & International Team, the role holder will lead and manage the policy for community safety, accident & drowning prevention policy for HMCG, delivering the internal business plan actions to influence the coastal & beach safety agenda and National Water Safety Forum (NWSF) aim to reduce preventable UK water based drownings by 50% by 2026.
The Community Safety Policy Lead will link in and liaise with a variety of stakeholders such as the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, other emergency services, other Government departments and national drowning prevention stakeholders, taking a multi-agency partnership approach and working collaboratively to take forward the HM Coastguard involvement in the UK National Drowning Prevention Strategy. The successful candidate will be the principal representative of HMCG with the National Water Safety Forum and similar devolved administrative bodies, influencing national water safety policy by developing HMCG centralised policy based on evidence and statistics.
The successful applicant will work alongside other Stakeholder & Data Team Staff , supporting and working closely with them to successfully deliver within their role areas.
The Community Safety Policy Lead will run the HMCG community safety programme in relation to risk reduction and accident prevention on the coast and at sea, being an advocate for water safety education and supplying statistics and risk assessment data on causal factors and incident trends.

This role offers the great opportunity for varied stakeholder engagement and interaction with members of the public, helping them understand the real risk when enjoying water and coastal based activities and directly contributing to the safety and saving of lives.
This role can be based at any of the advertised locations. MCA supports flexible working and operates a hybrid working model between home and office for this role, giving you greater flexibility over where and when you work. Details of the arrangement will be discussed further with your line manager.
There will be a requirement for travel on official duty within the UK, which will involve the role holder being away from their normal place of work, including overnight stays, for a number of weeks per year. A full driving licence valid for driving in the UK is required.
