About the role:

Expert provision and leading of the business analysis function, ensuring business requirements and processes are gathered, evaluated and benefits realised, using effective techniques, standards, and tools.

  • Responsible for a professional business analysis service to capture business requirements and map business processes where data is being handled.
  • Develop, define and champion the business analysis standard approach, tools and techniques, ensure they are used, and maintain these as an effective "tool kit".
  • Line management of business analyst colleagues, ensuring effective day-to-day support, development, technical guidance, prioritisation, and workload planning.
  • Lead on modelling business functions and processes. Investigate and model information flows and data structures.
  • Work in close consultation with business areas to analyse and define new business requirements involving management of data and their supporting business case justifications and create and / or contribute to project mandates and project planning documents.
  • Lead on defining detailed functional specifications for new business requirements and prototyping activities to ensure specifications are fully in line with user expectations.
  • Analyse business issues and identify available options for consideration, specifying information flows, processes/procedures, and organisational change that will meet the business requirements, and fit with IT services architectural standards.
  • Analyse the data requirements of business change projects and propose data strategies, system interfaces and architectures to meet such requirements.
  • Responsible for selecting and being an expert user of appropriate tools, including logical models of data and systems, to strategically lead the development and documentation of architectures, and assist colleagues with appropriate direction and applications of these tools.
  • Provide specialist analysis advice and expertise to support or challenge new ideas and approaches.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of any necessary methods, policies, and principles for data management throughout the system lifecycle, providing expert advice and support where required.
  • Build a strong and effective customer focussed team and provide leadership that models the university's values, motivates staff, promotes performance improvement, and enables IT services to deliver excellence.
  • Form alliances and relationships with key stakeholders/ contacts across the university to enable effective delivery of services raising the profile of IT services and ensuring clear and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Stay abreast of all relevant industry and technological developments in the marketplace and provide advice to the ITS Senior Management on how to take advantage of these to support the development of initiatives that deliver business objectives.
  • Represent the university on external and internal groups as appropriate.
  • Work in compliance of all the university policies and procedures and take local responsibility for implementation e.g. Health and Safety.
  • Carry out such other duties temporarily or on a continuing basis, as may reasonably be required, commensurate with your grade.

- Knowledge of Business Analysis, data analysis, modelling and design methods and tools, including data management standards, applications and trends.

- People management experience.
