Our vision is to end street homelessness. At Thames Reach we are committed to helping homeless and vulnerable people to live in decent homes, build supportive relationships and lead fulfilling lives.

We are recruiting a Lead Recovery Worker to join our team in Croydon. Croydon Reach forms a significant part of the boroughs complement of services working with rough sleepers. We work to rapidly reduce the number of people rough sleeping in the borough, by providing intensive interventions to support them to access accommodation and ensure that the appropriate support is in place to sustain this.

The successful candidate will use existing knowledge and experience to move into a role to work with vulnerable individuals who are engaging in substance misuse. You will provide essential support to these individuals as well as supporting the work of the substance misuse and mental health outreach teams, where you will have influence and responsibility, to develop engagement and trust, based on a person centred approach, to support individuals.

Working with the team will give you an opportunity to make a positive impact on those who sleep rough and experience multiple challenges, such as substance use, trauma and socioeconomic disadvantages.

You will:

Manage a caseload to offer intensive and person-centered support and develop tailored care plans to achieve this.
Conduct regular outreach shifts, sometimes with volunteers.
Focus on improving the local response by coordinating joint working and collaboration between agencies.
Represent the team at multi-agency level by attending team meetings and briefings including Drug and Alcohol, Mental Health and other agencies.
Identify gaps in local provision and contributing towards developing and implementing new pathways for a variety of individuals.
Accurately record and report to the Rough Sleepers Drug and Alcohol team all work done.

With the help of our experienced senior staff and management, you will be supported and trained to use your strong communication and creative problem-solving skills, to enable you to create and deliver options for people where these may be hard to find. You will receive regular supervision from experienced staff who will both guide your work and encourage and facilitate your personal development.

To succeed as the Lead Recovery Worker, you will:

Have relevant experience in working with rough sleepers or vulnerable adults and supporting them to access services.
Excellent organisational and time management skills in order to remain strongly outcome focused, with the ability to coordinate a small number of complex cases.
Commitment to working in a challenging environment with the ability to be highly flexible throughout the working day.
Good communication skills and confidence in public speaking when representing Thames Reach to external organisations and forming strong working relationships with partners; being able to challenge them when required.
Strong IT skills with the ability use Outlook, online recording systems, Excel, and Word, using a tablet and a smart phone.

The role will involve office and street-based work in Croydon. While a large proportion of your time will be spent working daytime shifts, Monday-Friday, the role includes some early morning and late-night outreach shifts as required.

Generous holiday allowance - 29 days per year plus 8 public holidays (pro rata).
