Tax Manager

We have a fantastic opportunity to join our Finance team in a newly created role as Tax Manager. Based from our head office in Basingstoke, you'll combine office and home working in line withour hybrid approach.

The role

You'll take responsibility for alltax related work atSovereign, providing a highly specialised taxationsupport service to the business covering a range of complex financial taxationresponsibilities. You'll use your expertise and knowledge of tax compliance and taxaccountingprinciples to oversee and prepare all company tax compliance reports, whilst reporting budgetary concerns and taxation effects of businessdecisions to Senior Management. You'll also be a trusted source of tax advice across the business, providing robust advice on proposed business structures and business transactions so that they comply with and optimise tax rules and regulations.

Responsibilities include:

• Defining, preparing and managing the monthly tax compliance routines and tasks within the month end timetable, co-ordinating and liaisingwith finance staff to ensure successful and timely close
• Ensuring robust inter-companytaxaccounting procedures are in place and adhered to across Sovereign and thatallinter-companytax entries are reconciled with other subsidiary companies
• Full responsibility for the accuracy of tax and tax related accounts (e.g. vat, cis) on the general ledger, ensuring that effective procedures are in place and thataccountingcontrols for taxation are maintained atall times
• Accountable for the preparation of alltax related returns and reports, including the VAT return for Sovereign and its subsidiaries, involving complex analytical review to maximise recovery and minimise Sovereign's liabilities
• Business partnering withDevelopment, covering all projects from new Joint Venture schemes, Regeneration projects to Shared ownership disposal, providing specific taxinformation needs and communicating any taximplications of allbusiness practices to Senior Management
• Production of year-end statutorytaxation notes for allSovereign entities
• The preparation of information required for Sovereign's annual corporate taxcomputations, acting as the key point of liaisonwithour external advisors throughout

What we're looking for

You'll be a fully qualified Accountant withsignificant experience in a similar role as a Tax Accountant, Tax Analyst or Tax Preparer. You'll need to havestrong technical and practical knowledge of the principles of tax compliance and accounting. Ideally, you'll also have experience from within Housing or Real Estate and the applicabletaxlegislation however this isn't essential.

You'll also need:

• A strong, clear working knowledge of taxaccounting processes, strategies and controls
• A track record of working in a technical accountingcapacity delivering complex reporting and Statutory outputs, including detailed report writing and analysis
• A professional and logical approach to problem solving withstronganalytical skills
• Ability to work to deadlines and maintain high attention to detail, being agile in approach in order to prioritiseappropriately
• StrongBusiness Partnering skills with ability to build lasting relationshipswithstakeholders and demonstrate strong influencing skills
• To be articulate and clear verbally and in written communications
• Knowledge of SORP for Housing Associations would be advantageous but is not essential
• Knowledge of Agresso Accounting system would be beneficial
