Job Description
The Satellite Systems Architect, nominally based in London and as part of the Global Government (G2) Business Unit, will work on various strategic programmes and projects and is a key role responsible for the definition of space segment and satellite communications capabilities and requirements and the provision of engineering support to (a) bids/proposals and (b) technical studies in the field of satellite services/systems and products.
Primary Purpose of the Role:
- To act as Satellite Systems Architect for potential Inmarsat future system(s)/capabilities development programmes originating in G2 Strategic Programmes.
- To define, design, develop and document the capabilities, functions, sub-systems, architectures, interfaces and operations of selected satellite systems and network architectures.
- To undertake or manage engineering analyses and feasibility studies appropriate to requirements definition, architectural design and other engineering elements associated with Satellite Systems Architectures, services and/or products.
Key Responsibilities:
- Working on a day-to-day basis with System Engineers perform the role of Satellite Systems Architect for strategic systems/services for G2 Strategic Programmes, as required, undertaking the appropriate requirements, design and other engineering analyses and trade-offs.
- Establish, manage and maintain designs, inclusive of design options, in conformance to Inmarsat-defined objectives and requirements.
- Identify, manage and maintain system-level and derived system requirements for various strategic programmes architectures, concepts or services.
- Manage engagement with potential sub-system partners and suppliers in accordance with Inmarsat policies acquiring technical and commercial information as appropriate.
- Contribute to bids, proposals, product/service developments and related business development activities for future strategic programmes and opportunities.
- Identify and develop new service/product concepts to support G2 Strategic Programmes business development and execute early technical feasibility studies/analyses to feed into overall business case development.

Qualifications
Desirable Knowledge and Skills:
- Engineering or Physics (or similar) first degree or higher, ideally in Aerospace, Telecommunications, Navigation or other similar technical areas.
- Demonstrable experience and knowledge of systems engineering processes, concepts and implementation in the PNT and telecommunications areas.
- Expertise in and/or exposure to system/segment-level engineering analyses, including dependability, resilience and security.
- Expertise in link budget analyses and ground segment engineering including a knowledge of networking concepts.
- Knowledge of and expertise relating to the implementation of model-based systems engineering (MBSE) concepts, processes and techniques, using software tools such as AGI/STK and Enterprise Architect.
- Knowledge of appropriate standards, for example ECSS, ITU, ISO Standards and/or other engineering standards.
- Eligible for UK Security clearance.
