Senior Hydrogeologist

Salary - £40,000 - £45,000 dependant on skills and experience + company car

Location: This role offers the ability to work within the Anglian Water region

Essential to us meeting and exceeding these targets to deliver consistent customer satisfaction are our?Water Resources & Drought Management Team responsible for maintaining the security of upstream groundwater sources across the Anglian Region, both in terms of yield and quality.

What will you be doing?

You can expect to be able to use your technical expertise and experience across a number of different areas. This role will have a focus on developing and implementing groundwater strategies to ensure the sustainable and resilient future of groundwater abstraction in the Anglian region. As our Senior Hydrogeologist you will be working collaboratively with a number internal and external stakeholders. You will also coach, guide and provide technical advice to other team members, to support them in the delivery of business-critical groundwater work and in their professional development.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing a clear understanding of future groundwater quantity and quality risks across the Anglian Region to support the development and implementation of strategies to manage these risks

  • Working collaboratively to ensure groundwater strategy is embedded within long-term water resources planning (i.e. WRMP) and price review regulatory submissions.

  • To be able to conceptualise and understand how our groundwater systems work to ensure our groundwater risk assessments are robust and that water quality investigations and any resulting remediation work is completed in alignment with current industry best practices

  • Design and implement groundwater studies, including groundwater monitoring programmes and aquifer testing.

  • Working collaboratively with key regulators on technical groundwater related issues across the Anglian Region, including both the Environment Agency and Drinking Water Inspectorate.

  • Providing operational support in response to groundwater quality and yield challenges to ensure continued security of groundwater resources for our customers.

  • Develop and manage groundwater asset plans to ensure effective groundwater asset management

  • Act as technical sponsor for our borehole capital maintenance programme to ensure capital investment is effectively used to minimise business risk

  • Working closely with our in-house groundwater engineers to support the delivery of asset maintenance activities including condition surveys, performance tests, borehole rehabilitation and borehole refurbishment.

What do you need?

  • First degree in relevant subject area (e.g. science, engineering)

  • To preferably have post graduate qualification in hydrogeology or related subject

  • Project/programme management experience

  • Chartered with a relevant professional body e.g. Geological society, CIWEM or equivalent (desirable)

  • Proven track record in Water Resources Management

  • A strong understanding of the the standards and regulations that govern drinking water quality and groundwater abstraction

  • An understanding of the hydrogeology of the Anglian Region

  • Ability to problem solve technical challenges in a logical manner

  • Can work effectively in both office and field environments

  • Good commercial awareness

  • Full Valid UK driving licence
