Senior Principal Radar Engineer
My international client is a defence specialist who develop innovative solutions in the sectors of radar, electronics, optronics and avionics. The Senior Principal Radar Engineer is the primary point of contact for Radar Systems within the group. They drive the required development to keep company products competitive, ensuring this is delivered on time, within budget and in line with design procedures. They provide technical authority for radar products and their development. They produce and supervise detailed and accurate estimates both for new developments and existing product enhancements in accordance with requirements. They assist in the development of the careers and technical capabilities of other members of staff in the Group. In association with the senior management team they assist in developing the product roadmap. JOB FUNCTIONS: Apply and communicate expert knowledge of radar systems, RF and associated techniques, architectures and technologies, to all levels of the business Co-ordinate the technical delivery and/or act as technical authority for multiple work packages and programmes Primary point of contact for Sales and Systems Engineering staff in the selection of appropriate products Oversee and develop longer term strategies for: Radar architecture and RF module development and integration Simulation suite development of radar and sub-systems Development of radar signal processing algorithms Field trials and data capture campaigns Radar performance prediction, assessment and improvement Oversee derivation of technical requirements and specifications as well as their verification & validation Liaise with sub-system suppliers to ensure performance requirements are met Deliver technical presentations, papers and reports to internal and external customers Ability to travel within the UK and overseas. Failure to comply with this duty may result in the Company invoking the disciplinary procedure. RECRUITMENT REQUIREMENTS: ESSENTIAL: A Masters or Bachelor's Degree from a good university. Expert knowledge of Radar Engineering, with significant recognised contributions to the field and/or company products Proven record of leading large, complex analysis and design projects/programmes on time and within budget Self-motivated, enjoys leading a team and coaching others Excellent command of written and verbal English Detailed knowledge/experience of the majority of the following: MATLAB and digital signal processing Pulse Compression, Doppler Filtering, CFAR and Detection Radar Video or Image Processing, Plot Extraction and Tracking Phased Array Radar Embedded Software, Linux or FPGA RF, Antenna or Radar Electronics Systems Engineering Life Cycle DESIRABLE: Comfortable with hardware test and debug using lab equipment Experience of source control and issue tracking tools (e.g. git / JIRA) Other commonly-used programming languages, e.g. Python, C/C
