Job Description

Metalis are currently working with a company in Sheffield, who specialise in Stainless Steel Manufacturing. Our client are looking for SHIFT LABORATORY ANALYSTS to join their busy workforce on a PERMANENT and FULL TIME basis, hired directly through the company.

The Hours:The right candidate must be willing to work DAYS and NIGHTS, on a four on, four off shift pattern basis. (2 days, 2 nights).The Salary:Starting salary of £26,985, rising to £30,840 after probation) - shift allowance inclusive.

The role:

  • Working safely in accordance with defined methods and within the Company's safety culture and rules
  • Preparation of metallic and non-metallic inorganic samples for analytical testing using hand and power tools, fixed cutting & grinding equipment, and automated machinery
  • Analytical testing of metals and slags using infra-red absorption & thermal conductivity analysers, optical emission, and x-ray spectrometers
  • Data entry and verification of test results
  • Radioactivity testing of metals and slags using gamma-ray spectrometers
  • Equipment standardization and shift-start preparation activities, including updating applicable records
  • Equipment maintenance and basic fault-finding / parameter checking using instrument software / diagnostics to determine need for Supplier support
  • Test and accept serviced / repaired equipment
  • Role-specific continual professional development (e-learning)
  • Supervision of contractors (service engineers) whilst they attend laboratory equipment
  • Fire warden for the laboratory building during worked shifts

Applicant Requirements:

  • Education: A minimum of 5 subjects at GCSE grade C or 7 and above including English and Mathematics. BTEC / T-level / equivalent in a technical / engineering / science / laboratory discipline would be advantageous but on-the-job training will be provided
  • Be willing to work flexibly as an individual and as part of a team, to meet operational demands
  • Previous experience with laboratory test equipment e.g., gas analysis / spectroscopy is preferable
  • Have good verbal and written communication skills; able to use Microsoft Word
  • Have accurate numeracy skills; able to use Microsoft Excel
  • Demonstrate an awareness of health and safety at work
  • Take a methodical approach to standardized tasks
