Senior Sustainable Design Consultant
At Lewis Davey we are excited to offer a Senior Sustainability Consultant the opportunity to join a team within a leading Real Estate firm whose services are on the frontline of development projects, given the increasing importance of ESG, climate change and reducing environmental impacts.
The role sits within a newly formed Team, currently in its growth phase, which spans a range of sustainability expertise across the real estate sector covering built environment and rural projects. The candidate will work to deliver the net zero and pre-planning services relating to the retrofit and sustainable design of existing and new buildings.
Working closely with other colleagues, the focus of the role is to provide strategic sustainability advice and help clients understand the interventions needed to ensure existing buildings are futureproof and ready for the net zero carbon economy. The individual will also support clients in delivering sustainability and energy assessments for development projects spanning the concept, planning, design, delivery and operation of buildings.
The net zero and pre-planning services focus on advising clients on sustainability, energy and whole life carbon strategies from conception through to delivery and monitoring, fulfilling planning policy requirements and keeping clients one step ahead of forthcoming legislation relating to built environment sustainability. The fast paced, dynamic team is overseen by the Head of Technical Sustainability, and currently comprises 8 members, with a range of experience and expertise.
Key Responsibilities of the Role
The individual will work as a Senior Sustainability Consultant to assist clients by translating corporate sustainability requirements into implementable design solutions around ESG, sustainability, net zero, energy efficiency, building performance, and health and wellbeing. Work closely with Building and Project Consultancy and Planning teams to deliver sustainable design advice and evaluation of measures for existing buildings and new developments, with particular regard to whole life carbon. Projects will consist of existing building of various types and scale or building and masterplan scale developments, at the planning stages of the development cycle.
The individual will be required to provide services including but not limited to:
Attend client meetings and provide strategic advice.
Support clients to develop bespoke sustainability strategies.
Undertake analysis and prepare reports on net zero pathways and sustainable design.
Deliver energy, sustainability, overheating and whole life carbon assessments.
Remain abreast of policy and legislative drivers and disseminate knowledge internally, including active participation in research initiatives.
Assist in developing and marketing services.
Technical experience:
Degree or relevant experience in environmental impact, design, engineering or architecture preferred.
Skills and Knowledge
Broad ranging energy and sustainability consultancy experience with a focus on developing implementable solutions.
Experience in implementation of sustainable design measures covering passive design, energy efficiency and building services optimisation.
Understanding of ESG, certification and corporate reporting mechanisms.
Delivery experience of pre-planning energy and sustainability, including responding to local and national policy requirements.
Experience in use of Dynamic Thermal Modelling (TAS or IES) to evaluate operational energy, carbon and overheating / thermal comfort.
Experience of Whole-Life Carbon assessment, including embodied carbon calculation and Circular Economy principles.
Resourceful team worker, with ability to be autonomous.
Possesses vision and is eager to experiment to deliver innovative services to clients.
IT literate, numerate and experienced with data analysis.
