Job Description
Plant based meat alternative foods are estimated to be worth over £1 billion in the UK alone, with year-on-year growth estimated to be 30%. Our client is at the forefront of the industry by developing purified animal products in bioreactors to produce meat alternative foods that look and taste like the real thing, while being 100% cruelty free.
They do this by combining cell biology and mathematical modelling and they are currently seeking a Pilot Plant Bioprocess Associate to join their R+D team. The company is currently opening a brand-new site in central London, and you will be involved in setting up the new pilot plant & operating tissue culture systems to support the production of cultivated fats.
You will be working in a start up environment, driving new technology towards large-scale manufacturing alongside an exceptional team of Engineers, Biologists & Mathematicians.
The role will involve expanding and differentiating large cell populations in reactors and being responsible for the up-keep and maintenance of the equipment. You will be involved in installing new instrumentation and hardware while collaborating with several teams.
Applications are invited from candidates with the following:
- MSc (or relevant experience) in biochemical engineering, upstream bioprocess engineering, biomanufacturing, or similar
- Experience operating bench scale and pilot plant reactors - specifically stirred-tank bioreactors
- Familiar with stem cell culture
- Experience or interest in novel bioreactor development
Ideally you will also have experience with some of the following:
- Bioreactor commissioning and maintenance
- Project management tools
- Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN) software
- Sterile media preparation at 15-50 L scale
- Tissue culture automation
