Description

As a Senior Legal Counsel - Trade Law & Sanctions Compliance you will work on a diverse role that will report to the Head of Ethics & Compliance. The purpose of the role is divided across the following fields:

1) Trade law, export control and sanctions compliance to support the department lead with the purpose to ensure that SITA operates in compliance with all trade laws globally, including in countries subject to broad sanctions regimes, and regarding targeted sanctions and export controls

2) Compliance support (investigations, anti-bribery, AML, competition, CSR & other compliance matters) supporting the department lead in maintaining and developing the established compliance program for our global business)

3) Commercial support: partnerships, M&A, and/or product development projects, supporting the Business Unit legal leads and M&A lead on commercial projects on an ad hoc basis.

What you will do
• Support the further development and maintenance of:
- the existing trade law compliance programme; and
- the existing general compliance programme - investigations, anti-bribery, AML, competition/anti-trust, CSR & other compliance matters.
• Support the continuing development of a corporate culture where ethical and compliant values-based behavior is embraced by all employees, including the SITA Code of Conduct.
• Support the design and implementation of adequate policies, processes and procedures.
• Support training of staff.
• Support the assessment and actioning of relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
• Support counterparty screening methodology to conduct due diligence of future and existing vendors, customers, banks and third parties.
• Collaborates with other departments to direct compliance issues to appropriate existing channels for investigation and resolution. Participate in internal investigations.
• Identifies potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk.
• Supports the department lead for monitoring the performance of the Compliance Program.
• Supports corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues, and provides general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situations in the future.

Qualifications

Who you are
• Law degree or master's in law.
• At least 5 years of previous work experience in the field of trade law and sanctions compliance, with exposure to other compliance areas and commercial work.
• Worked for a law firm and/or inhouse legal team.
• Experience in IT, software, data and/or telecommunications industry.
• Experienced with working in an international environment.
• Expertise in Compliance issues.
• Experience with different cultures.
• Comfortable in presenting to senior audience and ability to influence and convince.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Other languages advantageous but not a requirement.
