Job Description

Primary role purpose:

The Systems Engineer (SE) will be an engineering professional providing key contributions to the systems engineering lifecycle of a satellite integration project within an existing fleet of secure communications satellites owned by the UK MoD. The SE will be part of a dedicated team of systems engineers to work closely with the satellite manufacturer to ensure a seamless integration of new ground and space assets within existing infrastructure. The candidate is expected to support change management implementations, design reviews and requirements management activities.

This is a full time role based in Wiltshire but may involve occasional travel to Inmarsat's London Headquarters. The candidate must be a UK national and hold / be able to achieve Security Check (SC) Clearance.

Qualifications

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the satellite integration engineering team to meet the technical objectives set by Integration plan and statement of work
  • Provide the Engineering Manager with information to support generation of performance reports
  • Prepare and maintain system / sub-system requirements specifications, interface requirements, and test documents
  • Support the satellite OEM with integration and testing of new hardware into existing infrastructure
  • Management of requirements databases, analysis and de-composition of customer requirements
  • Development of technical documentation to support key technical milestones and design reviews
  • Support the Engineering Manager in technical-related meetings with the Customer and OEM
  • Develop strong working relationships with the Satellite OEM and their Customer
  • Support implementation of contract change notices issued by the Customer
  • To be responsible for health, safety and security of the project team in accordance with Inmarsat policies.
  • To be aware of and comply with Company Standards of Conduct and all relevant statutory requirements
  • To carry out any other reasonable management request.

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience working in a systems engineering role within SATCOM / space / defence, ideally on European / UK Space programmes
  • Must be degree educated in engineering discipline (mechanical, systems, computer science, or similar)
  • Systems engineering experience using best practice methodologies (V-Model, Agile etc.)
  • Ability to produce project technical documentation such as SRD, URD, ICD's
  • Highly organised, detail oriented and self-motivated
  • Collaborative mind-set and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to remain positive in high pressure and stressful situations
  • Experience in using requirements management tools such as DOORS, Cradle etc.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office packages as well as Project Server, MS Project and SharePoint

Must be a UK national and have / have the ability to achieve UK SC Clearance.
