The Technical Ceramics business of Morgan Advanced Materials engineers high performance functional and structural ceramic materials, components and sub-assemblies to address customer-specific technical challenges.
The business employs advanced materials science and applications expertise to produce parts that enhance reliability or improve the performance of its customers' products. Much of what the global business unit makes is used in demanding, harsh or critical environments. Our Technical Ceramics business works in selected segments of the electronics, energy, healthcare, industrial, petrochemicals, security and transport markets, typically in close collaborative customer relationships.

OVERVIEW & SCOPE OF ROLE:
To plan and manage the production output of the area, whilst recognizing various constraints, to enable the business to profitably satisfy its customers, achieving high quality standards in a safe manner and without harm to the environment. These constraints include for example capability and availability of labour, economics of manufacture, machine capabilities and availability.
Responsibilities:
H&S
Encourage Thinksafe culture. Report and investigate accidents. Report near misses and investigate into causes.
Maintain a clean, organised working environment which conforms to the relevant Health & Safety and environmental standards. Actively engage and support 6S initiatives
All new and existing operators receive a safety induction and training on the risk assessment for all new tasks.
Working with the production planner, plan the workload in the area to meet customer requirements, internal and external and to minimise WIP
Schedule adherence / OTD Arrears
Participate as required in the contract review process, organize sub con work including internal requirements
Optimise labour and material planning to achieve the schedule whilst keeping WIP as low as possible and avoiding stock obsolesce and slow moving stock.
Organize daily workload in area with run rate boards and work too lists. Drive to achieve OTD including internal customers
Report to the Value Stream Leader and customer service any issues which impact on the ability of manufacturing to achieve the plan.
Support and provide good visual management
Run DGA 1 and attend DGA 2. Follow daily routine encompassing leader standard work including daily checks and TPM
Tooling organisation, stock checks
Productivity / Efficiency
Maximise productivity to use the minimum labour to achieve the schedule and reduce overtime. Optimise shift-working
Identify and achieve gross margin improvements, work with engineering to ensure accurate routings
Highlight any machine maintenance, jigs/fixtures/tooling and calibration concerns
Customer returns Rework and scrap levels
Ensure all production output achieves the required quality standards and there is a right first time approach
Participate in CAR and NCR improvements including attendance at scrap review meetings
Ensure adherence to procedure and process specification
Accuracy of bookings
Ensure stock/WIP records including scrap recording are correctly maintained and bookings are accurate
Highlight and assist with any anomalies on routings and BOM's
Training and General duties
Identify the team's training needs and ensure the training is carried out, recorded and kept up to date on individual forms and the training matrix
Carry out job chat reviews for team.
Hold 3 / 6 month sign off reviews with temporary staff.
Carry out return to work interviews.
Manage holiday bookings.
Encourage a continuous improvement culture
Raise justified purchase requisitions to maintain and optimise production
Support NPI/process improvements and new equipment installation
Qualifications:
Essential:
• Significant experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Possess a good level of technical competence.
• Strong people management skills and cultural awareness.
• Drive to achieve and proven track record of achieving results
• Ability to plan and organize production work load and people
• Proven ability to motivate a team to achieve high results
• Ability to deal with and overcome difficult situations
Desirable:
• Demonstrate success in developing and improving complex manufacturing processes.
• Understanding of ceramic and/or refractory materials.
• Previous experience of working within a large organisation is preferable.
