What's the scope of the role?
Your role as Construction Team Lead (Battery Energy Storage Systems) is a senior role within the CTO and will line-manage a team of Construction Project Managers responsible for the delivery of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects in the UK and Ireland. You and your reports have direct responsibility for delivering the project from Financial Investment Decision (FID) through to handover to Asset Operations. Projects shall be managed and monitored against the investment criteria agreed at FID including commercial, time, targets as well as delivering to our Zero Harm ambition. In addition, you and your team will be responsible for all CTO (Construction, Engineering, Procurement) inputs and assumptions in the lead-up to FID. All projects will be managed using tools and processes from our internal Project Management Framework, with support from our Project Management Office (PMO).
An important part of the role also includes supporting the Pivot Power business function, responsible for development of BESS project firstly during the consenting process and then (post-consent) in the lead-up to FID. You will be an integral link between the CTO and the Pivot Power business function and therefore in regular dialogue with other managers to successfully develop and deliver BESS projects.
What you'll be doing day to day.
You'll have line management responsibilities for up to 6 Construction Project Managers and budget management of projects between £1m and £200m depending on scale in addition to the following;
Manage the development of construction cost estimates, resource schedules and construction programmes during the due diligence phase of potential acquisition projects.
Oversee the procurement and delivery strategy for the projects with the Procurement team.
Prepare work scope packages, managing interfaces as necessary.
Manage the contract negotiation and award process and subsequent project build and delivery programme.
Manage budgets approved and assigned to the project following successful investment approval.
Develop the risk register (and other project management tools) and undertake regular reviews and updates with project team members.
Project manage the construction phase of projects in alignment with the EDF R Project Management Framework (PMF).
Manage all stakeholders through the construction phase to foster and maintain excellent relationships.
Support the Development team with construction support for projects in early stages of the planning process, to ensure continuity and consistency between the development phase and the construction phase.
Support the Asset Operations directorate in order to ensure operational requirements are understood and incorporated into design management process.
Implement EDF Renewables Health and Safety policy and carry out regular checks and balances to ensure that it has been correctly applied in all the aspects of the pre-construction and construction project activities.
Manage the client information aspects of the Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) process in conjunction with Engineering.
What do you need to be great at this role?
You will have an appropriate degree or equivalent industry standard qualification coupled with exceptional project management skillset, particularly working as part of multi-disciplinary teams and preferably during construction of onshore wind projects in addition to;
Ability to effectively utilise project management tools and processes to prepare, deliver and close projects.
Ability to effectively lead, motivate and coach others in your team
Ability to accurately and concisely communicate with others in the wider organisation, including senior management.
Thorough understanding and experience of delivering projects in line with CDM Regulations 2015.
Knowledge of BESS technology, energy utilities and other relevant work packages.
Experience of project document preparation, review and assessment.
Good understanding of general IT tools.
Experience and track record of commercial skills and budgetary control.
Experience in carrying out technical due diligence of renewable energy project acquisitions and disposals.
