An 'Outstanding' Ofsted rated and NAS accredited multi-site special school in Tower Hamlets is looking to recruit a speech and language teaching assistant to join them on a long-term basis. This is an award winning provision for students with SEND, including autism, complex needs and speech, language and communication difficulties.
The school has been recently refurbished and is an inspiring place for both students and staff to spend their days. You will be working alongside a skilled multi-disciplinary team of dedicated teachers, support staff and therapists to ensure equal opportunities and the best possible learning outcomes for the students.
As a speech and language teaching assistant, you will:
• Create and prepare visual aids and materials for use in class and therapy sessions
• Plan and run small group intervention and speech and language sessions
• Work in collaboration with the class teachers and speech and language therapist
• Be a positive role model to students and share good practice with less experienced staff members
• Assist in the training and development programmes
• Carry out student observations and record findings
• Accompany the class on visits and school trips
You will be provided with excellent in-house and external training and be offered the opportunity to gain further speech and language qualifications.

• Be passionate about supporting young people with special educational needs and disabilities
• A good understanding of autism and communication disorders
• Be a team player and use initiative
• Follow instructions well and have the ability to accept guidance and advice from the class teacher and more senior members of the team
• Have excellent organisation skills
• A commitment to providing the highest quality of inclusive education
• Be confident supporting students with social emotional mental health and who may display challenging behaviours
• A high level of verbal and written English
Relevant experience is essential to be considered for this role.
