We are now looking to recruit an Environmental Manager for our A428 Black Cat to Caxton Gibbet Improvement scheme. The purpose of the Scheme is to address the problems of congestion, poor journey time reliability and poor resilience against incidents between the Black Cat and Caxton Gibbet roundabouts. The Scheme seeks to address these problems through the construction of a new 10 mile dual 2-lane carriageway from west of the A421 / A1 Black Cat roundabout through to east of the A428/A1198 Caxton Gibbet roundabout.

PURPOSE: To provide construction support to the environmental lead during detailed design into construction on a major highways project (A428)
  • Assist in the review of DCO (development consent order) documentation (review of environmental documentation e.g., environmental statement, flood modelling, noise modelling, ecology surveys etc.)
  • Provide written environmental reports, management plans and strategies as needed.
  • Provide advice, support and assistance to operational and project personnel to enable them to deliver and manage their environmental and sustainable responsibilities and objectives.
  • Assist the A428 environmental lead and wider Infrastructure environmental team in any best practice initiatives and delivering ad-hoc improvement projects.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of suitable environmental and sustainability training for all project staff.
  • Represent and promote the Environment Enabling Function in internal and external meetings, workshops, management reviews and forums - communicating best practice standards and initiatives


We are looking for:
  • Degree level in appropriate Environmental or relevant discipline
  • Substantiated construction industry experience or relevant environmental experience in a similar sector
  • Minimum Practitioner Membership with IEMA or similar professional membership
  • Full driving licence and willingness to travel across projects/ contracts in region
  • Competent IT skills
