Summary
The Joint Service Mountain Training Centre (JSMTC) specialises in the development of future Adventurous Training (AT) Leaders and Instructors. JSMTC have wings in North Wales, Northern England, West Highlands, Northern Ireland and Bavaria. Our courses mainly deliver specific qualifications for individuals, but we also run a number of concentrations which allow aspirant Leaders to spend time with expert instructors, consolidating experience.

An exciting opportunity has arisen at the Joint Service Mountain Training Wing (Ballachulish) (JSMTW (Bal) where you could join our small team delivering high class adventurous training instructional courses to military students. Within this role there are opportunities for travel overseas and teach in multiple disciplines whilst growing and improving your qualifications and experience.

This position is advertised on a part-time basis only. The working pattern will consist in working 26 contracted weeks spread throughout the year. The business need will dictate which weeks are worked.
Job description
JSMTC are looking to appoint an experienced and highly motivated, passionate, and dynamic individual to join our dedicated team at our Wing in Ballachulish. As the successful applicant you will be responsible for training Service personnel as leaders and instructors in directed AT activities in order to conduct these disciplines in their units. The SIO is required to work independently and as part of a team. SIOs are required to have good IT skills and ability to express themselves well orally and in writing. The SIO is required to have an enhanced ability to teach and hold the following essential professional qualifications:
Winter Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor
WW Kayak Coach, or Open/WW Canoe Coach, or Sea Tidal Coach.
First Aid qualification.
The following qualifications are highly desirable: British Association of Snowsport Instructors (BASI) Level 2 (Alpine or Nordic), British Cycling Level 2 or equivalent as is the requirement to hold a D1+E driving licence
Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Instruct on JSMTC courses and symposiums as directed by the Line Manager.
2. Implement Training Risk assessments procedures.
3. Deliver professional and safe training in accordance with best practise and in accordance with policy documents.
4. Manage training accidents / incidents in liaison with the relevant emergency services and ensure all stakeholders are informed in accordance with policy.
5. Write reports and action plans on students under instruction.
6. Complete internal validation processes where required.
7. Contribute to instructor Quality Assurance training audit visits at regular intervals to ensure programmed courses are delivered safely in accordance with best practice.
8. Conduct peer to peer moderations when directed to do so Line Management.
9. Maintain training currency through adherence to a directed Mission Critical Training (MCT) plan and the achievement of relevant Joint Service Adventurous Training / National Governing Body awards.
10. Ensure currency in Mountain First aid through possession of an in-date Mountain First Aid certificate.
11. Undertake the responsibilities and tasks of the Duty Instructor when directed.
12. Undertake driving duties, including towing trailers, as required and in accordance with service regulations and unit policies

25 days paid annual leave rising (1 day per year) to 30 days upon completion of 5 years service (pro-rata).

Selection process details
This vacancy is using Success Profiles , and will assess your Behaviours and Experience.
Applications will be sifted on all Behaviours, but in the event of a significant number of applications, an initial sift will be conducted on the lead 1 Behaviours: Leadership. In this instance the remaining elements will be tested at interview.

Practical Assessment Delivering a short (30 minute) lesson.
