Hippo Digital is recruiting Senior Java Developers to join our Hippo Herd. Java Developers work in multi-disciplinary teams that build, support & maintain User-Centred digital solutions that offer real value and work for everyone.
Hippo s Senior Java Developers are experts in their field. You will act as a Senior Consultant providing technical expertise in software engineering practices both internally and to our clients. You will be a leader, and have the ability to manage projects, maintain client relationships and be passionate about developing and upskilling others.
Your role in nutshell:
Produce software for Hippo and our clients - front-end, back-end, platform, we do it all, but you don't need to be an expert in it all
Create web applications used by public and staff - this includes researching with members of the public to understand their needs
Work within an agile, collaborative, multidisciplinary team
Prototype new functionality prior to committed development
Utilise the latest standards and approaches to solving problems
Build great relationships with your team and stakeholders
Work with the Hippo community to share best practice to ensure high standards
Line management of colleagues within your profession
Skills and experience that you need
Experience of the full development lifecycle delivering user-centred digital solutions
An experienced developer using core Java, CXF, Spring Boot, Jetty, Mustache, HMTL, CSS & JavaScript
Strong JavaScript library and framework experience - Node, React, Angular
Extensive experience working within agile methods and using techniques such as Kanban and TDD
Skilled in designing and building native and web applications, across a variety of scales and platform environments such as AWS, Mongo and Oracle Java 8
Expertise in public cloud and DevOps
Capable of using a variety of software tools such as Terraform, Vault and Ansible
CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, AWS CodeBuild, Azure DevOps and Atlassian
A team player with strong collaborative skills
Excellent verbal/written communication skills
Able to articulate in both technical/non-technical terms depending on audience
Previous experience of working on GOV/NHS projects would be highly desirable
Embrace line management responsibilities (experience preferred but not essential) and supporting colleagues

Please note that due to the nature of the business, we may also request that you work from client locations or work from home.
