Job Description

This is a hugely exciting time to join the Department for International Trade s Northern Powerhouse Trade and Investment team. The team s focus is increasing investment in the North of England, emphasising its strengths and the abundance of opportunities available in the region to secure and maintain funding from investors.

Investment is a crucial lever for ensuring the North of England can meet its levelling up ambitions in the face of the current global economic challenge. In this role, you ll directly contribute to this mission, working at the heart of the investment hub to encourage businesses to take advantage of the North s investment potential. You ll specifically attract inward investment into the Renewable Energy sector, identifying, pursuing, and landing opportunities across the value chain from research and development through to manufacturing and commercialisation.

An expert in your field, you ll take personal leadership of the waste to value and heat networks portfolio, setting and implementing an operational strategy and Northern sector plan to help your team reach its objectives. You ll build client and sector relationships at a senior level, effectively conveying the opportunities within the Renewable Energy sector to attract investors to the North. Fundamentally, you ll be a source of support and expertise within your team, and across the wider organisation, representing your department in the UK and overseas.

An established professional with at least 5 years of experience, and a degree or equivalent qualification in a sustainable energy, clean technology, or manufacturing based subject, you ll have demonstratable knowledge of the Renewable Energy sector and networks. You ll be an effective communicator capable of building, growing, and maintaining relationships with stakeholders and investors, some of which may include balancing complex asks and travelling both around the UK and internationally. On a personal level, you ll be a collaborative team player, able to keep calm under pressure and work at pace to deliver against conflicting demands and priorities. Passionate about renewable energy, you ll be committed to the continuous innovation and improvement of the service, and to ensuring that the North receives the investment it needs to flourish in the wake of global economic uncertainty.
