Lloyds Banking Group is the UK's leading bank with over 30m customers and its biggest digital bank, with over 13 million active online customers. We've placed an ambitious transformation programme and a multi-channel approach to banking at the heart of our strategy to be the best bank for customers, backed by significant investment in our platforms and people.
Why join the Data Science Team?
You'll get exposure to many interesting projects across the wide range of business areas within Lloyds Banking Group. We take ideas from the concept stage and work with colleagues to demonstrate how data science and machine learning can be applied to improve customer experiences and deliver value. These solutions are engineered into live ML systems that make a material impact on the lives of up to 30m+ customers across the whole of the UK.
What will I do as the Chapter Lead for Modelling within Data Science?
You will
Guide the team of technical leads within the Modelling Chapter, who are responsible for helping our project delivery teams to develop and implement best practice solutions.
Own and continually improve upon our current approaches for tackling common ML tasks - e.g., price optimisation, propensity modelling, time-series forecasting, model monitoring, etc. You'll ensure that these are understood within the data science community and will defend these approaches during the model review process.
Steer the 'Modelling Chapter' and help them approach more complex problems that require new approaches to be introduced. You'll manage the delivery of proofs-of-concept that demonstrate these new capabilities and how they can deliver value to future projects.
Work closely with the ML Engineering team to define automated approaches to common workflows - e.g., for feature selection, hyperparameter tuning, model testing and monitoring, etc.
Contribute to the recommended training curriculum and progression paths for professional development, from the graduate scheme to senior technical leads, and help steer the Modelling Guild to focus on contemporary data science topics that are relevant to Lloyds Banking Group.
This is what we're looking for...
We're keen to speak to senior data scientists and technical leaders in machine learning that have relevant experience. As a minimum to be considered we will be looking for:
Experience leading data scientists and an ability to influence technical standards.
A strong communicator that can collaborate effectively with other teams (e.g., ML Engineering, Intelligent Automation), and explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
A good theoretical and applied knowledge of a broad range of statistical modelling and ML techniques, such as: regression, clustering, decision trees (including random forests and gradient boosted trees), time-series forecasting and deep learning (as applied to structured and semi-structured data).
A pragmatic, "keep it simple" attitude to your work and designs.
This would be a great role if;
You are customer focused and want to continuously improve our systems.
You want to influence how data science is practiced throughout Lloyds Banking Group.
You want to experiment with new ideas and techniques in data science and ML.
You have an automation mindset.
And how will we challenge you?
We are lucky to have a continuous and interesting supply of work, lots of different data sets to work with and a continually evolving infrastructure. You'll have exposure to many data science problems and an opportunity to continually improve the ways in which they are approached.
You'll influence some of the best data scientists in the organisation and help to grow a thriving data science community.
