Job Description

We have a great opportunity based at our Shuttleworth campus for a Animal Technician to become a key member of our Animal Sciences department.

As a Animal Technician, you will play a pivotal role in the success of our students through:

  • Contributing to the day to day running of the Zoological Education Centre
  • Participating in the care of animals housed within the centre; to include farm, pet and exotic species (chelonian, snakes, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates and exotic mammals).
  • Preparing resources and provide support to teaching staff and students during practical sessions
  • Maintaining enclosures for all species housed including bioactive, immersive and specialist animal accommodation.

Our ideal candidates will have relevant current vocational experience in the animal care sector and experience of caring for a wide range of animals to include farm, pet and exotic species (chelonian, snakes, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates and exotic mammals), alongside the following qualifications:

  • Level 3 qualification in relevant subject (Animal Management / Animal Science)
  • English and Maths or similar at GCSE grade A-C or equivalent

Contract Type - Bedford College Professional Services

  • 37 hours per week (1.0 FTE) / 52 weeks per year
  • 27 days per annum (plus public holidays)
