Position the UK to benefit from advanced nuclear energy technologies
New and advanced nuclear power is at the heart of the Government's energy strategy for the UK. It has a key role to play in achieving energy security, and will help us reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050. As part of the Department for International Trade's Energy team, you'll work to help deliver the £1 trillion investment needed and ensure the best possible economic benefits.
Civil Nuclear is a complex and highly technical sector that deals with unique challenges, sensitivities, policy requirements and international regulation. Success depends on building and nurturing trusted relationships. Your specialist technical and commercial expertise will be vital to engaging with overseas customers and investors to maximise the UK's opportunities.
About the role
If you join us in an Advanced Nuclear Technologies and Campaigns role, you'll focus on the development of advanced nuclear technologies, undertake assessments of markets and projects, and advise on maximising economic, industrial and commercial opportunities with a view to gaining early-mover advantage. You'll also work with the UK supply chain to develop consortia, value propositions and bids to target, and position UK companies for specific opportunities.
Join us in a Waste Management & Decommissioning and Campaigns role and you'll influence UK policy to create the right market conditions for the development and deployment of advanced waste management and decommissioning services and technologies. Contributing to campaign strategies to position the UK for overseas customers, your work with the UK supply chain will also be key to developing the UK's capabilities and maximising the economic, industrial and commercial opportunities.
About you
You'll have strong technical knowledge of emerging advanced nuclear technologies (small modular reactors, advance modular reactors and fusion) and their potential applications (such as electricity, hydrogen/synthetic fuel production, industrial processes and medical isotopes). We'll also look for knowledge of emerging and existing nuclear waste management and decommissioning technologies and processes.
A thorough understanding of the nuclear lifecycle including fuel services, new build, operations and waste management and decommissioning is also important, and you'll have experience of managing complex nuclear projects. In addition, you'll have experience of leading and managing capture strategies for contracts, especially in international markets, and deep familiarity with the UK supply chain, including access to a range of contacts. Proven leadership, problem-solving skills and the ability to drive change are all critical.
About us
You'll be joining the Department for International Trade (DIT), which builds UK and global prosperity by promoting and financing international trade. We offer a comprehensive development programme as well as a high annual leave allowance, season ticket loans and other benefits and a generous public sector pension.
