MQ has invested over £21M in its first six years supporting the growth of the mental health research sector, impacting the way research is done and developing new tools for the future of mental health diagnosis, treatment and prevention. It is one of only a few charities internationally dedicated to this cause. Our investment and convening of the mental health research sector has gone on to see over £46M of co-investment and follow-on funding being secured by the most exciting new talent in mental health research. We have also had an enormous impact on the public perception and awareness of mental health through our wide-reaching campaigns and policy work.
As we enter this new strategic chapter of MQ's continued growth, we are seeking to grow the scientific expertise on our board and Mental Health Sciences Council to drive forward our ever increasing ambition and impact.
Role Purpose:
The MQ Mental Health Sciences Council (MHSC) is a scientific advisory council to the MQ Mental Health Research (MQ) Board of Trustees and executive team, whose purpose is to support and guide the research strategy, including the overseeing of grant and fellowship awards through independent expert panels, in keeping with the strategic aims of MQ.
Key Responsibilities:
MHSC and Scientific Board members represent a broad cross section of disciplines, lived experience, diversity and national/international focus. They are convened to support the strategic direction of the organisation and, collectively and individually act as ambassadors for the organisation.
The Board of Trustees is made up 12 members, half of whom are from scientific and research backgrounds. As members of the board and the MHSC, their role is to act as a bridge between the scientific direction and organisational strategy, supporting the CEO and Executive team to have the greatest impact possible.
Meetings:
The MHSC meets twice per annum, in the Spring and Autumn.
