Purpose:

This is a new and exciting role within Ricardo. Building on the wider sustainability (carbon management and net zero etc) support we provide to our clients we are experiencing an increasing demand for social value support to our clients as part of wider ESG strategy and reporting services. We are seeking to recruit an experienced consultant to lead and deliver our social value work and develop our propositions. The social value consultant will be responsible for overseeing all technical delivery, proposition development and communications internally and externally in support of business development in relation to ESG products and services.

Sitting in our established Sustainability business area, part of a 250 person strong 'Sustainable Infrastructure & Operations' business unit and the 700 person Ricardo Energy & Environment Business, you will be an expert in identifying and engaging with ESG / sustainability professionals working with them to identify and deliver social value strategies, implementation plans and specific projects.

Your ability to identify, develop and deliver opportunities for our clients is important as is the ability to hold strategic conversations at a senior level; assess needs and develop technical propositions and take the clients on their social value journey. As a result, you will most likely be working in a consultancy environment, possibly with some in house experience, and you'll be well networked in the social value/ESG arena.

Key accountabilities:

Within a collaborative and supportive team of consultants, you will be responsible for supporting us win and deliver projects with existing and new clients on social value. We will also look for your support in understanding how you can help Ricardo Energy & Environment and Ricardo Plc on our own social value journey. Client liaison, project management and technical delivery will be required from initial client engagement through to provision of final reports. To assist our team, the successful candidate will:

* Work with clients and prospective clients to identify market leading social value propositions.
* Be the social value lead for client projects, likely part of wider sustainability strategy or ESG projects, demonstrating experience of working face-to-face with clients and delivering excellence.
* Input technical expertise to lead social value client services.
* Grow a team of social value professionals to deliver our services.
* Position Ricardo as a leading organisation for social value capabilities and services.
* Ensure appropriate profile raising and marketing of Ricardo's services and capabilities.

Key competencies and experience, you will have:

* Proven experience in a similar social value focused role or significant focus within a wider ESG role with delivery and business development experience with excellent communication skills.
* Have a higher education qualification (Bachelor's Degree) in an economics, environmental or engineering discipline, or otherwise to have a good track record working in an environmental role, so that you can demonstrate your knowledge.
* Ideally have experience of working in the consultancy sector, to demonstrate that you have the necessary commercial awareness, but we are also interested to talk to candidates currently performing social value/ESG roles directly within industry especially where they have a strong commercial awareness.
* Able to help clients develop and execute strategies to enhance their reporting against social value reporting and disclosure frameworks / voluntary standards and ratings and rankings e.g. PPN 06/20, Social Value Model, BS 8950:2020 and the Green Book.
* Demonstrate technical expertise across the following areas:

* Social value creation projects.
* Monitoring and evaluating social value

* Be able to advise clients on the current and upcoming trends and developments shaping the social value and ESG landscape - and the organisations driving this agenda (across NGOs, ratings and rankings agencies etc.).
* Have a deep understanding of the links between social value, client reputation and value creation/risk mitigation.
* Have experience of identifying and developing business opportunities is desirable.
* Need to hold a Full UK Driving licence for this position.

* High levels of drive and commitment; a self-starter, problem solver with the ability to turn ideas into reality.
* Assisting with mentoring others to support the growth of the business area.
* High level of computer literacy, including familiarity with the full Microsoft Office software suite and potentially industry analysis tools.
* A flexible approach - able to see where help is needed and support colleagues as necessary.
* Be comfortable juggling a variety of tasks in a sometimes fast-paced operational environment.
